So, as a former lurker, lets open my own topic to tell, rant and get advice, no? 😉
My hair was dyed very dark brown (typical box dye, mixed the darkest brown with black as true black never lasts and is too harsh for my face), my natural haircolour is somewhere between a cold mid- and darkbrown. Anyway, I fell in love with the Pravana Pink colour and knew I wanted this. That dark pastel shade is absolutely gorgeous.
Little sidenote: I don't trust hairdressers with bleach. I wanted it blonde once and it took them five hours to absolutely DESTROY my hair. It felt like straw, it wasn't the colour I wanted (Little that I knew that would be impossible in one go and they didn't tell me), I didn't know about coconut oil and I chopped it off eventually. I'm also quite picky, I'll admit that. Furthermore I have experience with bright colours and I've done stuff to my hair that's absolutely ridiculous. Yet, never managed to destroy it like the hairdressers.
As a lurker here and some common sense, I also realized I would never be able to lift my hair in one go unless I wanted to go for the broken hair and damaged skin. No way, I love the length as it is. My plan was to go for a blonde, hopefully just with toning the hair after bleaching, as we can't get natural colour semi's here anymore, and leave it alone for a month and baby it. After a month, a bleachbath and hopefully it would be light enough for Pravana Pink or again a month blonde and lots of babying it.
I read about the colour removers, the coconut oil and gave it a go with vol 30, as I knew from hairdresser drama in the past vol 40 is absolute insanity for my hair. This weekend, a friend of mine would do the bleach and we divided my hair in three sections. The uppersection went wrong. Patchy, dark stripes, I was not amused to say the least. Especially since the other sections where nice and evenly. *ott*
We tried to sort it out, mere desperation, with purple and blue, as we thought it was orangey. Apparently it was more a yellow, and it went to a greenish godknowswhatcolour.
I washed my hair, quite irritated after all this work, and I noticed my bio blackseed whatever shampoo took out a lot of colour. I'll admit, I washed and washed, conditioned it and I woke up this morning with a dark honey like blonde colour. Still unevenly, but not as bad as that horrible greenish tint.
I went to another friend who had Directions Cerise in stock, as I also have a job and a darkpink is more preferred than a greenish unidentifiable colour. And Pink Forgives. I went to the friend with a hat on, that walk of shame. 😀
As usual I washed my hair before putting the Directions in and again, I noticed still a lot of blue is coming out At this very moment, I'm sitting with my hair in the shampoo and a shower cap over my head, to see what will happen.
I'm in doubt now: slather the cerise in it and leave it for a month with lots of babying it OR leave it blonde and baby it for a month? In the end, I still want that Pravana Pink, don't care how long it takes. BUT, I also have to walk around with a proper haircolour in the meantime. My work doesn't care about bright unnatural colours but bad hair is another thing.
The best news of it all: my hair is still in excellent condition. Coconut oil is the best. Miracle stuff. 😀
If it's a dark pastel pink you want, there's actually a good chance if you use Cerise it'll go on bright, but in about a month fade to something like the pravana darker pastel pink. If then the patchy bits are too dark, you'll be able to see them so you can spot bleach. Then just dilute some cerise to about the colour you have at that point and cover it all.
That's what I'd do 🙂
Sounds like a plan!
I managed to bleach and 'tone' (and lots of shampooooo) it to a level 7, level 7.5 blonde so I'm afraid it's too dark for the darker pastel without becoming peachy. Peachy makes me look like I'm quite ill.
Anyway, after my last shampoo/showercap routine, I decided the blonde was way too patchy so the Cerise is in it as we speak. Not completely my plan to begin with but this is a good test for my neurotic plannery and impatience. ;D
I'll see what the next month will bring me. Lots of love for my hair anyway. In that respect, I must thank all the wisdom about bleach and coconut oil on this forum. My hair feels great while usually bleach is not my hairs best friend. So thank you all. :-*
Pravanas Pink isn't actually a great product, so you will definitely get a better result trying to replicate the shade with something like Cerise.
I'm afraid it's too dark for the darker pastel without becoming peachy.
Just wash it with purple shampoo and it'll tone the peach down 🙂
Really, I thought Pravana was one of the best brands out there and I've seen such pretty hair with Pravana Pink.
Ofcourse, the purple shampoo!
Basically I'll just have to wait what will come. I must admit, I was a bit disappointed I haven't had my month of really blond hair. How do other dark-haired people go to blonde without double processing it?
I have pretty dark hair, but I'm lucky to have very little red in it. That makes it a little easier, but there's still a lot of yellow, so i struggle to get past the yellow stage in winter. Other than that, I avoid having a cold room and I put a shower cap on while it's processing.
Pravana is great, but the pink shades do not have the coverage or staying power of the other shades. It is like that with most brands, they seem to excel at certain colours, so you have to cherry pick the best shades from each brand.
Unfortunately I have quite some red in my hair, so that's a problem. I love one shade of the L'Oreal perfect Blonde Range, Oslo/Hollywood I believe (Strangely enough, different names for mainland Europa and the UK) but of course: peroxide -_-
Ohh, within a few minutes I'll now what Cerise did to my hair. 😀
Dear god. This is bright. 😮

Give it a few washes. You'll be used to it in a day or so 🙂

I felt the same about Sparks Pink Kiss...I had seen and heard such great things but it was kind of an underwhelming experience when I tried it myself.
It sure is a process going from dark to blonde. Years ago I did it at a hairdresser's, she used two color removers and one 30 vol bleach for like 45 minutes. It was a dark yellow blonde which looked really good and I'm glad she didn't overdo it. I'd never put 30 vol on for 45 minutes at home, but I didn't know about hair back then so I just let her do her thing. Luckily she knew about color remover and didn't try to bleach all my dark brown, black, and red dye mess out. I spent 5 hours in there that day. The safest dark to blonde processes take months, not hours.
I agree about the Pravana Pink. Pravana is a really great brand, but their pink and magenta are awful. They are so translucent + just seem so weakly pigmented compared to all of their other colors, it's like the pink and magenta aren't even the same brand! I think the cerise was a wise choice, it will fade and if it starts looking peachy at all before you can lighten again for a dark pastel, just use a violet semi heavily diluted in conditioner to tone it. To make a pastel that looks more like Pravana Pink, I would use Cerise or another cool toned long lasting pink like Rose Red, Virgin Rose, etc, and I would add a speck of violet to it, or mix some Directions Lavender in with it as It is a nearly lilac looking pink
Hmm, that's too bad. I was planning to get a stronger pink anyway, and dilute it myself because as a student, money is a thing.
However, I'm not a fan of the Cerise. After this, I'm done with it.
Really? That's too bad 🙁 What don't you like about it? Is it too bright?
It doesn't seem to love my hair. It's quite weird really. I've used directions carnation pink and flamingo in the past and that was all fine, hair nice and smooth, and it didn't fade quick.
Cerise I have to touch up almost twice a week as it fades quick and rather ugly, and it's harder to use then the others. Could be I have a bad batch or my hair is acting up. It's not as bad as the Crazy Colours I've used (that was really a waste of money), but I'm not happy with this.
Also, the colour, even diluted as I use now to touch up, is too red for my taste.
But there are other brands and possibly I still give Pravana Pink a go as I'm really curious. I just have to try it once. 😛
