Hi ladies
I have managed to acquire some Olaplex- the entire 3 step system, complete with instructions and measuring out stuff.
Has anyone tried it, as a non professional, in a home environment?
Yeah.
Meh so far in a lot of ways. I think I have less breakage, maybe. I also have hair that is the driest it's ever been and I don't know why. I have no idea if it's connected to the olaplex, might be, might not and I don't want to suggest it definitely is. No one else seems to say it makes their hair dry, so it's probably not, unless I have some rare reaction! However, it feels AMAZING when it's wet. Doesn't help me much as I only have my hair wet when it's being washed or in the swimming pool lol
What I see mostly with people saying how amazing it is are people that have used it and then their hair has been blow dried and otherwise treated in ways that always makes hair feel and look better. The problem with humans is, we're very good at convincing ourselves that results are what we want them to be.
I'm also aware that I'm a lot harder on products in general as I don't expect them to do what is claimed, leading me to the opposite bias that most people have. I try very hard to be objective, it's impossible to know if I really am though.
So, what I'm really saying here is, I'm not wildly impressed. I'm not convinced it doesn't work either. I feel that most of the people that are seeing amazing results are unwittingly exaggerating (and I'm not calling them liars or stupid or anything else) but I can't know for sure. I know others on the forum are not wildly impressed and some are.
There's always the explanation that if your hair is too far gone it won't do anything. If your hair isn't bad enough then it won't do anything. These could be seen as excuses for it not working. It could also be true.
In short. No idea if it's really any good lol Sorry for the long winded, rambling, to and fro answer to say I don't really know π
I am of the same mind as Janine. i have done 4 stand alone treatments, and my hair is no better at all, just slightly straighter. It feels particularly dry and tangly atm, but I think it is the time of year rather than the Olaplex. So overall rather disappointing.
I'm still using it.
I've used it in 3 or 4 root bleachings and I think it's actually doing well on that hair. The ends are now absolutely beyond repair. This is because I've had so many terrible hair cuts since moving to Manchester (I had one good one but haven't been able to get back there since, but will try harder when it's grown a bit more) that I've been using hair straighteners to get it do do anything nice. Which of course in the end just makes it worse. However, the first two inches at the roots are fairing a lot better, so I'm coming around to it. I still don't think it's quite as amazing as people claim, but it does seem to be generally shinier and stronger (for want of a better word)... but it's still just the roots and there's plenty of time to really see how it fairs as it grows out. We'll see.
On another note, I'm definitely having some kind reaction to it. Whenever I use it when I bleach, my face is SO sore and then really red and blotch. When I use it in between, it stings my face, but not as badly as when I bleach, but I still get blotches. I try not to get it on my face, but with water involved it's pretty hard!
I think i have done 5 treatments now, plus I added it to my bleach last time I did my roots and my direct dye.
I think I am finally seeing a difference! My hair gets dry and tangly at this time of year, and the untangling causes split ends, so I generally do a big trim around this time of year. (Big for me means more than an inch) This year I am seeing fewer split ends. Nothing else in my haircare routine has changed, so i think it must be the Olaplex
