My (slightly strange) experience with Nirvel Artx Grey

the first thing i'm gonna say is: always read the instructions! chances are you're probably not as dumb/impatient as me so i didn't need to tell you this... but it still stands. read them!

after trying for ages to get the perfect silver colour (i achieved it a couple of times using roux fanci full in true steel but it just wasn't lasting long enough because it was just a rinse) in terms of using a hair dye. i'd tried directions silver, crazy colour silver, pravana silver and even tried to make my own toner with manic panic dyes and conditioner but nothing worked.

so this was what my hair looked like before i put the dye on it:

so after seeing a lot of recommendations for nirvel artx in grey i thought i might as well! this is where the "read the instructions" ties in with it. because i was so excited i just did the routine thing of "slap it on my head" and leave it to sit... THIS was the point i referred to the back of the tube for processing times when i read: apply to towel dried hair and rinse off after 3 minutes. AH. RIGHT. so this is more of a quick rinse type product? and i've taken about 40 minutes to apply it to my whole head (i have super thick hair AND suck at dying my own hair) and sat around for a while. OH GOD time to get it off then...

i go to wash it and immediately i can see that my hair looks BLACK. like, BLACK. considering my hair was white blonde and i was expecting to go silver/grey this totally shocked and upset me - but of course it was my own fault. i get out, dry my hair and am... pleasantly surprised? turns out it's not black, hoorah! it's a kind of... dark grey/black/browny/purpley? honestly it's SO many colours and changes all the time dependant on lighting. however i do love it! it's taken some getting used to but i definitely do love it but i have to admit i'm looking forward to seeing what it'll look like when it fades... will it fade?! will i ever get back to my blonde base?

so this is my hair is half artificial lighting, half natural... does that even make sense? hahaha. this is when it looks more grey:

and this is my hair when it's in direct sunlight, i was standing in front of my window. you can see it looks more black/purpley here. also i apologise for my work uniform hahaha

anyway sorry for the rant! hope that someone can at least learn something from this and for a little bit more to be out there about the brilliant product that is nirvel - i feel it's really underrated!

I think you would have got the same colour even if you had rinsed it off sooner. I strand tested for 3 minutes and much longer, the colour was the same, a dark charcoal grey.
It isn't a very long lasting dye on my hair, so leaving it on longer may help with longevity.
If you want a more silvery shade, dilute it with conditioner next time. I also added some blue and green to counteract the warm purple tones.
I think it looks stunning on you.

It looks awesome! It will definitely fade. No worries about not following the directions, it is just a semi just like any other. Those directions are for people just wanting to refresh their color between salon appointments or add dimension to their natural hair color. ThThe color is meant to be a dark charcoal. They also make a silver for future reference πŸ™‚

Unfortunately no, I haven't tried the silver.  I'm curious what tones it has.
