Milkshake 9:11 Toner, a bit too grey for me

Hiya! new here and just want some friendly advice. So ive attached a few photos, labelling what stage hair is at.

my hair was very bleach bright on the ends and a tiny bit tinged with orange on the roots, i'm not a massive fan of the bleached look so i went to bondlink ( for those not aware its a salon supplier store)  i had a long talk with the lady there and showed her a picture of the colour i wanted, ( which is attached) she reccomended the milkshake range from Dia Lights, number 9:11.  i did question her and said that is extremely grey she assured me that it will just remove any warmth and give me ash.  i bought it. and then when i got home did lots of research ( typical me.. i research AFTER buying products) a lot of people said how very very grey it is! and after loads and loads of google searches i come across a thread saying that a quick 5 minutes will just remove the warmth and wont make it super grey.. still feeling a little worried i literally saturated my hair ( while damp) left it for 30 seconds max and washed out.

Now i don't hate it. its not a hair disaster. but its not what i wanted, it was really hard to find the right lighting as it looks different everywhere. in my bedroom it looks full on dull grey.. in my kitchen it looks light ash.. nightmare!! i've attached 2 photos of now. to be honest they're not very true, but near enough, im sure you professionals can see the tones of grey. so the reason for this thread is advice on how to sort it???

Shall i just let nature take its course and wait for it to fade... shall i find another toner? (if so, recommendations??)  or another trick ive seen is 3/4 lemon juice and 1/4 conditioner?? if it did fade would it fade out to a lighter less grey ash?? or would it return to original colour??

Just to confirm, i have shown you 2 photos of my hair before i toned it, one with my roots, where you can see the warmth to it (please excuse the awkward angle, that photo was taken to show a friend my burn on my head  😮 )
and one of the lengths to show how bright it was.

Then 2 photos of now in different lights. and one photo of what i want.
the orders totally wrong. sorry about that but i have written on them what they are.

My hair is pretty good condition just to add.

Using dandruff or clarifying shampoo can help fade dyes and toners pretty well if you want to try and fade the one out that you used. Have you tried using purple shampoo? It looks like your hair has some yellow tones to me (could be my monitor though!)

Thank you for reply lauralai (that rhymes)  I was worried that a purple shampoo would make it even greyer??

I have a very good purple shampoo that works wonders, but as i have a few grey streaks i worry it would grab too much?? would that not happen???

and yes i definitely have yellow tones around the roots and fringe! very annoying! some days it looks fine another day it looks blah!!

It looks a bit to me like your hair is actually a bit too dark for the colour you want. I think you might need to do a short bleach bath to lighten it just another level.

The beauty of using purple shampoo is that you can build slowly the amount in there. So you can try leaving in the shampoo for 3 mins, then if it's not enough, 5 mins and so on. It acts as a tint, so if it's too much then give it a scrub with normal shampoo and it'll wash a lot out.

You just need to fade what you have now before using it, as Lauralei says, dandruff shampoo or clarifying shampoo is normally enough. Or yes, you will end up with more grey, or lilac, streaks.

I've done a bleach bath a few times and love the ease of it.

So if I bleach bath to about the Same lightness as my wanted hair colour. I could then just use a purple shampoo to make the ash tones ? Or would I tone and then purple shampoo??

Thanks for tips. Great advice

Haha you're a poet and you didn't know it! 😉

Sorry, I did mean for you to use the purple shampoo after your current toner fades- I wasn't very clear on that!

I don't think you'd need to bother with the toner again, most of them are just unnecessarily damaging (the type that are mixed with a developer) and no more effective than using a good purple shampoo. Just bleach bath again to get rid of some of the darker yellow (don't go any lighter than a light yellow the colour of the inside of a banana with the bleaching, anything lighter than that is done by toning!) then as Janine said try the purple shampoo experimenting with how long is best to leave it on.

Great thank you. I'll do exactly that!! The purple shampoo im using at the moment is good old fashioned touch of silver. It's the one to beat for me. If you know any stronger/better ones. Let me know 🙂

I always liked the Lee Stafford one when I was blonde, but I'm hearing a lot of people talking about Fanola No Yellow online and seeing some great looking results, but I don't know anyone personally who has tried it.
