Messed up my hair (Not fried!)

If you want rid of the colour, use a colour remover.  (or normal fading methods)

Bleach in any form is an absolute last resort for getting rid of unwanted colour.  It can go weird, unpredictable, or drive the colour further into the hair shaft making it even harder to remove!

Purple tends to go green with bleach. Don't do it.

A colour remover wont work with these, been there done that a long time a go. Fading will be with I love Juicy as I've had the best results with that.

However, even with fading, the base is extremely uneven en needs to be more even.

Fair enough but I need to get the base even eventually or just give it up and go back brown again.

However I know with normal bleach you'll at least have to wait a month and preferably more, but I vaguely remembered it was different for bleach baths.

Edit: I know how to fade, trust me I've done that before with cerise (Tip: go for I love Juicy from Lush. Extreme pull out of colour, not as damaging as a lot of other methods like shaving cream or H&S and in my experience way better results). The bleach bath is not to fade it, but eventually when faded enough, to get my base more even as the base is a mess now and for what I want to be in the end, it needs to be way more even than this. 🙂

Edit 2: just looked in the mirror. I have no idea what Directions did with Plum but it's a pinkish bright purple on my roots. Whut? I've seen this stuff turn blue!

You can bleach bath once a week, but after a full bleach wait a month. Unfortunately, even very faded purple can turn green with a bleach or bleach bath. Often. You'll need to wait until it's super faded really. Though, try a strand test when you're ready, it might be fine.

I never had much luck with I Love Juicy! It's weird, it's no worse than a normal shampoo for me. That's just an aside though.

It depends on the batch of Plum you got. It might have been an oldish one, it used to be very pink based.

Ah, a week, depending how much it's faded. Good to know.  😀 I don't do full bleaches anymore as fried hair is one of my biggest fears. It just didn't expect the virgin roots to lift that much. It went from a level 3 - 4 to a level 8 with just a bleach bath in about 10 minutes.

It probably depends on the hair as well? I never had much luck with shaving cream or the extremely (never going to that again) bleachpowder + water. I love Juicy really pulled out Cerise here. Buying it again (with a beanie on) tomorrow and a different conditioner as well. Current one is coconut based with is nice but I want to avoid the too much protein problem.

Ah, yeah, that could be it. Bit annoyed by it as I actually wanted a more blue-based purple. Ah well. First fading and then deciding what I'll do colour wise.

Edit (late at night!): So, after a bit more conditioner the Plum already started to dinge a bit at the roots. It's definitely an old batch as it looks like a more purple version Cerise.  😮 Now it's completely dry, I see my main problem with it: the part where the Plum should gradually go to Cerise turned brown. It goes from bright magenta purple to dark brown to a magenta red. Yeah... No... This is not good. Lesson learned: have patience and no more undiluted cerise or plum.  😀

While scrolling through the forum, I noticed a fading method, http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php/topic,13842.0.html,   that isn't usually my fav as it contains bleach powder. But does seem to work for this type of colours and lots of people had a good result with it, so I probably do this instead of a bleach bath next week.

So the plan for tomorrow is to buy I love Juicy, a heavy moisturizing conditioner (I guess Dr Organic Manuka Honey or Royal Jelly) and a new jar of coconut oil.

Personally, I hate that fading method. Look through to the last pages of the thread and you'll see my comments on it. it also wrecked my hair. I have no idea how people use it and say their hair feels amazing afterwards. It seems I have contrary hair though, it seems to behave differently to most other peoples in lots of situations!

Yeah, I did notice that so it is a bit risky but probably less problematic than a bleachbath. I hope.  😀 You had trouble your base turned out darker, right?

The current state of my hair is surprisingly great, I've had way more trouble with standard boxdyes than with this bleachbath so at least that was a success.

The only worry I have is that Cerise won't budge and Plum will turn in to a horrible Cerise as it already is extremely close to Cerise. I'm such a tool for NOT diluting it and this is defo the last time I used it. Better off with a slightly warmer pink like Flamingo.

Just for future reference: would Neon Blue make Plum slightly cooler and darker? Of course I had to test several mixtures for the ideal colour but if it's a no-go anyway, I don't have to bother with that.

I'd rather bleach bath personally. It turned my hair bright golden yellow when it had been pale yellow before the colour that was put on. My hair was pretty good before and it was horrible after.

Have you thought of just adding some warmth into it instead?

I wouldn't generally use plum now anyway, it's too stainy in any batch and the blue toned one seems to turn royal blue that stays forever and will not shift or even fade. But in theory, assuming you have the pink batch AND you dilute it, yeah neon blue would help. It's a purple based blue.

I will take a picture later but it's definitely a pink base. It's unbelievable how close it is to Cerise.

I don't really follow: warmth to what? ^^ I'm surprised the fade methode left your hair in such a terrible state. You would think the oils prevent that. I'll have to see how much I can fade with I Love Juicy and the conditioner. With my hair, all the organic/bio shampoos and conditioners fade dyed hair: permanent, semi... It doesn't matter: it will fade brutally.

Perhaps I SHOULD add what the plan with my hair was: after years of horrendous drugstore box dyes, I've used three colour removers (the maximum amount) and was left with quite the blond hair on top, virgin roots and a reddish dark blond in the lower, more dyed parts.

I knew that it wouldn't be enough to avoid bleach, so therefor the bleach bath. I should note I've left about two weeks between the last colour remover and the bleach bath as colour removers are cool but so drying.

Well, yesterday I did the bleach bath and didn't work neatly enough, leaving me with an incredible patchy base. Next time I'll ask help as my hair is too lang and I'm too impatient to do it on my own but I'm happy with the condition of my hair so bleach baths are my new way for bleaching. Always look at the bright side of life, no?

As it was patchy I knew I had to cover it up because you know image.  😛 I should have used extremely diluted dyes as it would be temporarily but impatient me just chunked it in. Or should have bought some crazy colours as they don't stick to my hair.

The original plan was the Bi-flag in my hair for Bi-visibility: blue on top going to purple going to pink. I didn't use the blue (Neon blue by the way) as I figured my hair was too dark and yellow. This is still my plan but I'll have to see how terrible the plum and cerise have stained my hair. As this plum is way too pink for my taste, I probably should mix it with a bit neon blue and diluted the cerise like a mad men. I forgot: Or the other way around... Darker colours are better close to my face, however I am worried about washing it and getting mucky colours. I have no idea how people keep their multicoloured hair pretty. Tips are welcome!

I will get there eventually but it will take some time. Patience is a virtue I don't own, leaving me with stupid colour, but as I'm overly protective of my hair I can stand the wait of keeping time between fading/bleaching/the likes.

The post became very long, so this might be better. I hope anyone had any advice or tips for the multicoloured hair issues. ^^

Yeah, the plum is at the roots. No blue found here. Most dayligh-y as I could get it but it's even more pinkish in real life.

Results! I came home from the shopping trip, slammed the I Love Juicy with warm water on my head and put the cap on it. I have no idea for how long as I went on with doing the household chores and the likes.

I'm quite happy! It pulled out a great amount of colour, my roots are starting to show and some parts even went almost completely back to the base.

So, re-did my hair!And... I look more like a mermaid. The Directions Midnight Blue is way too turquoise for my taste and the old Plum and Cerise are extremely muted. It's okay-ish and I'll let it fade naturally but I am going to switch brands.

Any thoughts on a deep rich navy blue?
