Medium brown to medium blond

For years now I've been wanting medium blonde hair, I tried getting a natural lighter look by going to a salon for highlights earlier this year but that ended up a disaster.  My hair is naturally a light to medium brown.

Seems every time I start heading in that direction something happens and I end up going back to darker hair to cover it up!

Last week (after allowing a previous permanent colour in dark blonde to fade out - it turned out too dark) I gave myself a bleach bath.  It lightened a couple levels pretty evenly, with the exception of the previously highlighted strands from my previous highlighting disaster at the salon.  Those bits are quite blonde and I fear any more bleach and they might break off entirely, though I have a lot of hair and it wouldn't be the end of the world.  Still, they are a dilemma. 

So right now my hair is a light orangey colour with some half grown out light blonde highlights.  I have it toned down and evened out temporarily using a Clairol direct dye.

Where to go from here?  I don't know except to cover it all up with a direct dye until the highlights grow out, and once again I'm back to going darker!  I noticed there is a new line at Bee Unique called Via Natural, anyone try this? Wondering how it compares to Adore.
