So I have dark brown, almost black hair. This is not my natural color, my color is a lighter brown.over the course of a month+ I've been lightening some chunks in the underside of my hair for a peekaboo look. I want them very light blonde. Right now they're light/medium blonde and most of the orange tone is out. I figure one more bleach application with toner and it would probably be satisfactory.
I ran out of the platinum toner I was using (I bought it out of town) but I still have lots of purple shampoo.
I also picked up a box of garnier belle color extra lightening in ash blonde thinking I might try that.. It was on sale, but the box was pretty vague and I was in a hurry. After reading the instructions it says to not use on bleached hair. I'm worried now about using it.
What I'm wondering is if I do another bleach, would purple shampoo be sufficient? Do I need another toner? And does anyone know why this type of garnier dye says its not to be used on bleached hair?
Generally when box dyes say not to use on bleached hair it is because it won't get the result on the front of the box. Plus bleached hair is more fragile, so they don't want to encourage people to fry their hair as this product is basically bleach too. It is likely to have strong peroxide in it, 30 or 40 vol, you may want to ring them to clarify. Try on a strand test to see if it gives the amount of lift you need.
Do you know if that belle color dye needs a toner on top of it, to seal the hair? And can purple shampoo be used as a sealer or is it advised to always use a toner?
I am not sure what you mean by 'seal the hair'. Any conditioner, a vinegar rinse or a blast of cold water will help to close the cuticle and seal the colour in, if that is what you mean. Unless your hair is already light blonde you are likely to need to tone after using that product. You can use purple shampoo to tone, but purple conditioner is less harsh on freshly bleached hair. You can also make your own toner by diluting violet dye in conditioner.
