Lifting old Black dye a lost cause?

I have been dying my hair black every 3 weeks (my hair grows fast and roots shoot up quickly) with a combination of box dyes, and going to a salon once. (No demiperm/veggie dyes) for the past 2.5/3 years.

I would ideally like to lift the black dye and slowly bleach the bottom 6-8in on my length w/ a few large streaks from the roots and tone it grey/white.

I have used one color removal treatment (color oops extra strength) focusing on the ends/length with a few streaks to the roots. The box advised me to only let it develop for 25 minutes, so that's what I did. It also advised to rinse for 20 minutes, so that's what I did.
The black on the ends has not budged. The areas near the top have lifted toward a brown, and my roots are a splotchy mess.

I have another box of color remover (this one is color zap, recommended by a review) but I'm wondering if I shouldn't even bother trying to use it on the old black dye at the bottom, and I should just use it at the top, and eventually start the BB + toning up there and go for a completely different style?

TLDR: My long hair is loaded with old black dye, will it ever lift out of the ends?

You can use color removers multiple times, which is generally what you have to do when you have so much dye build up. It should lift but black dyes tend to leave a gingery stain that doesn't always come out. Even bleach doesn't always make a dent in it.

Try the color remover at least once more and see what happens.

I doubt you will get it light enough for silver TBH, but you can get black out enough to dye over with other colours. Silver requires a really pale base, with no yellow tones, it is one of the most difficult colours to achieve.
You will need to persevere with the colour removers, apparently One and only Colourfix is the best one available in the States. Then you can start bleaching, but as Spooki said, if it is stained, there is nothing that will remove it. You can get some nice colours over the ginger staining, such as reds, pinks, magentas, oranges, warm purples, deep greens etc

Thanks! I'm going to give this color oops a try kuz why not, I already paid $11 for it. (focusing just on the ends)

I was able to get a picture of my current state, although in an hour that'll change.  *puzz*

I'm new to this forum, is it acceptable for me to keep posting progress/ask for help on this thread? Or should I start new ones with specific questions as they come up (assuming they aren't answered elsewhere)?

I have to agree with Wicked Pixie. I dyed my hair black for years, sometimes dropping to a red before coming back to black. It took patience and many months to get a base light enough for pink but being honest my hair cannot go further than a yellowish

I'd probably come up with a more achievable plan
