Is highlighting over time more damaging than one round of bleach?

My lower portions of hair that were highlighted many times seem way more fried than the parts on top that were only bleached once and turned platinum. Those parts actually seem strong and there's a good few inches of it now. This is making me optimistic that over time as i get haircuts, only touch up the roots, and take care of my hair, I will have healthier and blonder hair.

Am I off base or is there hope?

First thought that comes to mind is that lengths are "older" hair than new growth, regardless of highlighting, but that's probably an obvious point!  My lengths have certainly been through way more processes, including what I thought might have been innocent box-dying, as well as just wear and more exposure to weather and elements and brushing and unintentional pulling...

So answer to your question is, if you're careful and bleach new growth only once, and take very good care of it, it will be in the best condition possible as it grows out.  But I'd say older hair is always going to be just a bit less healthy than 'young' hair for obvious reasons.

Thanks. My ends are crap. Even though they are trimmed they are still thin. They've been bleach over-lapped many times and I used to iron without proper products. If I cut a nice bob I would be all bleach blonde now but I can't bear to have short hair. There's a really big contrast between how delicate the bottom 3 inches compare to the top 3. So I think there's still hope for a uniform platinum one day. * patience*
