Icey Silver at Home

Hi All!  I went to HD last weekend asking for the icey silver blonde hair.  She bleached my roots and put some blonde foils in my hair. I made sure she knew that I didn't want the darker gray (since I'm 60 and don't want to make myself look old, and think maybe only a younger person can carry off the dark gray) that's so popular right now. She told me the longer she left the toner on the darker it would make my gray so once I could see my hair started turning gray I panicked and told her to rinse it out. It does have some gray, but still has a lot of blonde and the gray isn't that beautiful icey silver blonde.  So I did some research to see if I can correct it myself.

Since I already have toner and am starting from there I'm not sure how to proceed.  Can I put toner over toner or do I need to remove the toner before putting more toner on top of it? I bought the Ion Brillant Brights Snow Cap Creme toner and Ion 10 developer.

Thanks for any insight!

It's your choice, but I would just use a silver shampoo over the toners. You can keep trying, using it for a few mins a time until you get the result you want instead of pot luck with a very damaging toner.

So using a shampoo for silver will actually make my hair more silver?  I had no idea! I've already bought some so I'll try that.

Thank you!

Yep. I've only used toners you mix with peroxide twice but I've had far better results using silver shampoo left in for a few minutes. You might need to leave it in longer to get the result you want, but it's best to do it in short bursts or you might end up with a purple tint.

Try it, but now I'm seeing your photo on a different device, I'm suspicious it might be slightly too dark for a proper silvery white. It's close, but might be just not quite there. Hard to tell!

There is one last thing, you might find any shade of silver/grey might end up aging on you. The shade you have it now looks fab and I think you could even push it closer to white and still look great, but I think you'd  benefit from just a hint of warmth in the hair that grey rarely gives. Unless you can add a tiny bit of pink it can drain the face of anyone over 40. I'm 44 and grey makes me look so ill! You look fabulous at 60 and if I look half as good as you in 15 years I'll be very happy πŸ™‚ I'll still have brightly coloured hair though πŸ˜‰

When you say to add pink...how do I do that?  Is there a pink shampoo or do I buy a dye?  I like the color my hair came out, but not particularly crazy about it on me because I have a very light complexion, and I think you're right that the silver white would look better.

Thanks so much for answering my multitude of questions! I obviously do not have a clue about hair color and appreciate all your help!

I would just keep washing with silver shampoo, toner faded pretty quick anyways.

I think it looks good
