Hi! My hair is naturally a neutral medium brown, and I've been dying it dark neutral brown. (Sorry, I don't remember the number. I don't have the box)
My goal was to remove the old color with Color Prep (made by color oops, but isn't exactly the same, I guess?), bleach to desired lightening, and then apply emerald green over that.
I used color prep earlier today, once, and it lightened it slightly to a reddish color. I thought I had done plenty of reading, but apparently not. I did a bleach bath(30 developer, with a violet additive for 30 minutes) after using color oops, and even though I applied to the lower part of the hair shaft until the last ten minutes, I ended up with bright blonde roots and not much lift on the rest. I did not realize that peroxide would cause the color prep to re-oxidize the old color in my hair, or at least that's what I'm reading now.
I went ahead and put the green over it when I was done, hoping for the best. Of course, I have bright green roots and the rest is the color of spinach.
So, my question is, did I totally ruin my hair by bleaching right after doing the Color Oops? Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.
ETA: When I used the color prep, I rinsed for a while, then blow dried it, forgetting that I was supposed to actually follow rinsing with shampoo. I then hopped back in the shower, shampooed, rinsed again, and blow dried again. I then used an ION color pretreatment that was supposed to make the color even before I did the bleach bath.
I have never heard of color prep so i cannot say how it works, however, if it is like other color removers, then anything with peroxide would have cause the old dye to re-oxidize. You can try color removers again, you can use them up to three times in a row , and then you will need to wait a week, washing every few days , before trying peroxide products again.
Would Color Oops remove the brown dye even though I put green over it? Or is it going to be a waste of time and money to try it again?
I am not going to bleach bath again for a while. I don't want to risk frying my hair.
Yes, it should work. You might have to do two lots to get the best results but it will make a difference. Just make sure to cover it well when its developing and rinse a longer than it says is the pack.
I bought Color Oops and did two treatments. It did pull quite a bit of the dark out, so thank you for the advice. I did a protein treatment after and I'm going to redo the green tomorrow.
I am glad it worked! I hope you get the green you want too π post a picture so we can see the end result
