How to not bleach a sidecut...?

My roots are pretty gross right now, but I'm scared that in doing them I'll accidentally bleach my buzz-cut sides, which I really don't want to do. I figure that a large dollop of vaseline will stop any dye from accidentally sneaking into the sides, but how can I stop it being bleached? Will the vaseline work in exactly the same way, and if I do a large covering I should be safe?

Any other ideas much appreciated, all I've managed to think of so far is covering half my head in tin foil, which I don't think would even actually work!

Set up two mirrors so you can see the back of your head as well, apply vaseline and wipe it off immediately if you get some bleach on it? Bleach never lifts my natural colour right away, so I figure this could work for you πŸ™‚
(I should probably start doing this, half of my sidecut is dark blonde by now lol)

I would thing Vaseline applied liberally would do the trick.

As the sides are so short though, you'd be able to trim off any accidents in a couple of days, so it wouldn't be too bad.

I use the vaseline trick on mine, but I also time it so that I bleach when my side's need trimming anyway, then I can just trim off any accidentally bleached bits.
