I am trying to get platinum hair, I bleached my dark brown hair with a Salon Care Prism Lites (Blue) and a 30 vol. developer.
Even though I applied to me "lengths" first (I have an undercut), my roots are the light pale blonde....and lengths are Orange. Wonderful (I kind of was expecting this though.)
So like I said I was dark brown/black before. Since I can't bleach for a month, I need to find a way hide the orange.
Can I dye my hair back to a brown or something, using a semi or demi?
Is there a dye I can use that the next bleach can remove and work on the orange?
I cannot stick with this orange, or even a blonde until the next time.
Also, what vol. developer should I use for the next bleach since my hair is already damaged?
Drop at least a level of developer, so if you used 30, use 20 vol next time max. Lower is always safer.
If the hair is noticeably damaged now, it will be worse in a month so I wouldn't advise any further bleaching at all.
Did you have old dye on your hair? When roots go blonde but lengths don't lift it is usually because there is old product on the hair still.
If not, did you keep the lengths warm, covered and moist? the lengths can get cold and dry out if you don't cover them with cling film etc.
Always do a strand test when bleaching to determine how long the bleach needs to be on the lengths before you apply to the roots
WP, yes the hair was previously dyed, I remember the other posts.
Did you do a colour remover as advised before? If not, you should try one now.
If you had previous dye on your lengths a colour remover like ColourB4 or Decolour Remover if you're in the UK (I don't know about US products, sorry) *could* shift a good amount of that orange. Going from dyed dark hair to platinum while still maintaining hair integrity is very hard indeed.
I'd be hesitant to recommend putting any more dye over it if you're wanting platinum, direct dyes can hang around a long time and might even stain (especially if you use a dark colour). It takes time and a lot of shampoo to fade them down. Then when you next bleach or use a colour remover any of that dye still hanging out in the hair will likely turn an unanticipated colour. (My own personal experience was using a colour remover over Adore Dark Chocolate - the brightest, lushest grass green. Always strand test.)
If you do need to camouflage that orange though, I would use a light/mid brown colour like an 8-wash Nice & Easy or Wella Color Fresh over conditioned hair to prevent the dye from soaking right in. Washing with only conditioner will help maintain it, then when you need to get rid of it get out the cheap shampoo.
A colour remover will take a lot of the orange out. It may be impossible to get to platinum now though.
Always, always use a colour remover to take out old dyes before attempting to bleach. Bleach does strange things to the pigments in dyes, hence the neon orange you have now, which will be much harder to remove as the bleach will have driven the dye further into the hair shaft.
For camouflage, the only thing I would recommend is dyeing the roots orange to match, then toning with purple shampoo/conditioner

Hello all,
Yes, I did use a color remover. Color Oops (Color B4 cost too much to import).
I made sure to wash thoroughly, It did remove the color from my hair.
And actually, it's not as orange as some people have gotten.
Do you mean you just used it now, after the bleaching? that is what i was suggesting

I used the color remover it before the bleach. (last night)
Also, my hair is not that damaged. I did the coconut oil, letting it stay in all night before. After a long reconstructor treatment (no silicones), my hair seems pretty decent, yes dry.
I just said my hair is "damaged" because that's just what bleach does. π So there is a possibility that I could bleach in a month or two....we will see soon how my hair is
Just an update,
I toned my hair with a purple toner, and there color is now a light blonde. The top "lengths" are a little darker (where it was orange), but looks fine. It's actually kind of cool with the 2 tones/hightlights.
So now I'm currently trying to heal and restore my hair and scalp as much as possible.
Possibly, I may have my hair professionally bleached the next time, since that would be the time to get it as light as possible. Hopefully my roots won't grow to an ugly state until that time...
