How to get my hair to be less yellow?

This is my hair when I started.

Then I bleached my hair the first day and it came out looking pretty orange.

So then I decided that I would bleach it again the next day so now it looks more yellow

but I'm wanting more of a white color but I'm not sure how to achieve that and I figured I would get some suggestions so I don't completely ruin my hair. Also, I am thinking of adding turquoise after I get my hair to be more white but how long would I need to wait before doing that?

You need to use a toner. My favourite method is silver shampoo left on for 5 mins or so. You're not going to get to white though, it's mostly still a bit too yellow for that (though the roots look pale enough). The ends still look a little too orange. But, it'll certainly give you a more ashy blonde.

There are toners that you can mix with peroxide, but you need to stay away from them for a month.

You should never bleach your hair twice in two days.
1, you risk serious chemical burns on your scalp.
2, your hair is at it's weakest right after it's been bleached and you did it twice in twos days. It's going to be delicate for a while now.

After a month, you can do a bleach bath on the ends to hopefully bring them to the same level.

One last thing, was your hair virgin or dyed before you bleached?

The last time I dyed my hair was about two months ago and cut it from shoulder length about 3 weeks ago.

For future reference, if you want dyed hair lighter, first use a colour remover. You can use that 3 times. It probably would have meant you could do it in one bleaching.

It does also mean the that ends being slightly orange could be staining, so you might not get it fully out.

I would try a purple shampoo or conditioner. I hate to tell you this but I think you need more bleach :/

Basically toner only works well if you are bleached to a pale yellow and you want it to become white or ashy. If you have any dark hairs or orangey parts remaining it won't work well. I have this problem because my hair is very long and before I started bleaching my roots I used to have pale blonde highlights which were done with bleach as well. When you have these kind of highlights, there are some dark hairs finely woven in with the blonde, so they would have to bleach my entire lengths to get all the dark hairs to blonde, and the salon said this would be too damaging, so I have to just keep cutting my hair and eventually  they will be gone, but it will take a few years if I want to keep my long hair.

So would using a color remover do anything now? Or no?

Also, what brand of silver shampoo would you recommend?

You could try. It's possible it might do something, but it might not. I would because it might save another bleaching.

I like Bonacure.

Would I need to wait a month as well before using a color remover?
Thanks so much for your help!

No, you can do that straight away. But make sure its a remover and NOT a stripper.

Ok so my Bonacure silver shampoo came in today. Do I follow the directions for blondes and just put it on & wash it out immediately? Or would you suggest leaving it in for longer or anything?

*Picture Update*

So I finally got around to picking up a color remover (I was out of town). I'm not sure if you can tell by this picture but I think it did a good job of lightening the orangey ends.

Anyway I'll update again in a couple days after I use my silver shampoo.

If you want it to tone a lot then you should leave it on longer, since your hair isn't too light I don't think it will go purple if you leave it on longer. Just make sure to condition it loads afterwards as it might dry your hair out a bit 🙂
And the colour remover has made quite a difference, it should tone pretty well now.

It's looking great!  I used to leave purple shampoo in for about three minutes to tone the yellow underneath my pink, but that was a very highly pigmented one (Joico).  I though you could leave it in for up to 30 minutes if you wanted to.  The worst that would happen is it might get a purple tinge which would easily wash out with a couple of shampoos.

Ok so I have used the silver shampoo twice now. The first time I only left it in for about 2 minutes and it made a difference but not very much so the second time I left it in for about 20 minutes and I think it has made a huge difference! The yellow has toned down sooooo much. I'm super happy with it!

*Added update*
I decided to go ahead and do a couple strand tests of turquoise today. I did one regular and the other diluted. The diluted pretty much just rinsed right off but the other one looked pretty awesome. Sooooo I decided to go ahead and do turquoise highlights. We used one of those caps and mum did every hole which I think was maybe too much and I may have liked thicker chunks better but I still like it! (:

Also, I have another question.
What should I do when my roots start to come in? My hair grows really quickly and you can already see my dark roots starting to show up a bit in the pictures so I was just wondering since I'll be able to use bleachy things again in about a week and a half.

I always do my roots once every 8-10 weeks, or once they're about an inch long.  We have a Tutorial on Doing Roots.
