Right, i had dark brown semi permenant coloured hair, i did 3 colour b4, 1 vit c and have conditioned with coconut oil over night over the past month and a half. My initial plan was to go blonde but now i fancy a lilac/light purple maybe not all over??? I have about and inch to 2 of natural hair roots with a lot if grey aswell!! The rest is a medium copppery/gingery brown with ends that desperatley need a trim.
If i do a bleech bath what colour will it go too? If it goes a bright orange what do i do then??
Also i have no idea how to bleach bath so can anyone tell me exactly what i need, how much?, exactly how to do it , what to avoid, what to do before hand and when i can put a lilac cplour in. Im so scared to use bleach though as ive never done it before and really dont want to end up with hair carrot colour or ruin my hair. I havent the time or money to ho to a hairdressers. Or what would happen if i put a lilac over my current hair as it is ??

Bleach Bath Tutorial (it's a sticky at the top of the forum 🙂 )

Do a strand test and see what color you're left with. It's the only way to know what color it will come out. There are so many variables that can effect this there is no way for anyone to say. To get light enough for lilac (you need pale yellow, like the inside of a banana peel) you may need multiple bleach baths.

Also if you have used three colour removers and still have quite dark hair then you may find that you have cuticle staining which is permanent.

As spooki said, you will need multiple bleach baths anyway as each only lifts a couple of levels but to may have to accept that your hair won't get pale enough for lilac or pale blonde.

Also if you or coconut oil on your hair at least two hours before you bleach you will save your hair a lot of damage.

And you can tone your hair with violet hair dye diluted a lot in cheap conditioner to time down the orange tones from bleaching. Or use a purple conditioner or shampoo and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. (I believe bonacure is good for this.)

If you put lilac over your current colour it won't show up at all. You need a very light blonde base for pastels.
Dark hair goes through red, orange and yellow stages as it lightens, so you will reveal some orange tones if you bleach bath. You could go for a full bleach and that may get you to yellow/blonde, but it is impossible to predict how much lift you will get as it depends on the starting colour and texture of the hair as well as the products used. The only way to know is to do a strand test. Generally bleach bathing only lifts a couple of levels at most.

Things you need:
Powder bleach
Peroxide developer (of appropriate strength for your hair)
Shampoo (clarifying is best)
Measuring cup
Small bowl
Tint brush
Wide tooth comb (plastic)
Gloves
Shower cap (optional but helpful)
Plastic sectioning clips
A watch

you can get most of those things from this site. Beeunique only sells bleach kits so if you want to buy a tub of bleach and bottle of developer you'll have to go elsewhere.

As for what volume developer to get it's up to you. You can get 30 volume developer and dilute it in half to 15 or add more shampoo to dilute it further.

You can tone with silvering shampoo and conditioner like Touch Of Silver, wait a week and bleach bath again.
It will take a lot of bleach baths to get from gingery brown to lightest blonde, so you will have to put up with some less than ideal shades along the way.

You can cut off a tiny strand of your hair or just pick a strand without cutting (maybe one in the back or in the underlayers so that you don't mind so much if it turns a weird colour) and apply some of the mix on it to see what colour you would get.
You can put the bleach on your scalp but you have to be careful with it because it can cause burns and make your scalp itch. You should always leave your roots/scalp as last thing to do, your body heat will make the bleach work faster than on the rest of your hair.

The coconut oil method is a trick to prevent damages to your hair... You soak up your hair in coconut oil and you leave it on for some hours before bleaching, best thing would be to leave it on overnight. Then you can apply the bleach directly on your hair, no need to rinse it off before as the bleach will work anyway.
As bleach is a harsh chemical stripping your hair of its natural oils and moisture, coconut oil will keep it hydrated and minimise damages to both your hair and scalp.

For a strand test you mix the product in the same proportions as if you were mixing the whole thing, just a tiny amount though. I never cut my strands, i just test some hair on my head (I tie the rest out of the way)

How exactly did you mix it? Did you cover it and how long was it on for?
