Just in the middle of my first strand test (using Wella Blondor powder + Welloxon 6%). My natural hair colour is on the lighter end of a level 2 brown and I'm hoping to use a purple semi (I'm thinking Adore Violet Gem or African Violet at the moment) once it's lifted a bit. I'm just not sure how much I need to lift it as I've only ever been red in the distant past.
I don't want to lift it too much but I don't want to lift it so little that I might as well not have bothered. This will be my first proper bleach too so wee bit nervous.
Any advice would be most welcome 🙂

It depends on what sort of purple you want. For the swatch colours you need light blonde, but you can get a more subtle, dark berry toned purple on dark auburn hair.
Direct dyes are affected by the colour of the base, so the more orange tones the more reddish the purple will be. If you want a blue toned/violet shade you need to bleach past orange up to a blonde.
