How light for a toner to work?

Hi, I've looked on Sally's, but can't work out what I need......would this be okay?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRUZONE-CREAM-PEROXIDE-RAPID-BLUE-POWDER-BLEACH-FOR-HAIR-COLOURING-HIGHLIGHTS-/111051216752

I've taken the plunge and ordered Directions in Plum and Lavender so I can do some strand tests and see how they cover.
I assessed the condition, in the 2nd and 3rd photos it is washed with Body Shop Rain Forest shampoo, no conditioner or products, and left to dry naturally - it's a bit fluffy but not at all bad.....it never lays totally flat and smooth because of the curls. I've also trimmed 2 inches of the ends to get rid of the frizzy bits! and it looks much better.
I'd like to bleach bath in a few weeks when my skin has recovered from my allergic reaction, so you could take a look at my link Wicked Pixie and see if that will be okay, or maybe link to a product that is suitable, I'd be very grateful  πŸ™‚

LINK FAIL!!! There is a drop down menu, the one I tried to link to was: Sets 20vol peroxide 1 litre and blue powder bleach 500 grams.

I have never used that particular brand, but yes, it is the right type of product. You can mix them together for a full bleach, or dilute further with shampoo for a bleach bath.
Are you still aiming for blonde, or do you want purple/lavender hair?

If you pop into a Sally's they can advise you on what you would need, you will need a box of powder bleach and a bottle of peroxide (20 vol) I use the creme peroxide, it lasts ages too I bought mine about 7 months ago and do my own and my sisters hair I still have a bit left too

I would argue to not solely trust a Sally's employee advice. Some do have very good knowledge. Some, I'd even argue many, don't.

Is it you that used the Trulites bleach Janine? I know some people on here used it with good results, but I can't remember who

I don't think I ever actually used it. I'd ordered some on line but the bottle was broken when I opened it. Cue bitter argument with the seller about how badly they'd packed it, when they were saying it was all custom made boxes!

I don't have a Sally's near me....only Boots and Superdrug. I can order online though, if any one can recommend a brand or link to something. I'd like blonde, but if I am going to have to grow out the stained lengths, then I'd love to dye them purple/lavender instead of leaving them ginger!

It might not be staining, you have not tried actually bleaching it yet. I thought it was staining because it had survived several bleachings, wheras it has actually lightened quite well from just a box blonde (the subsequent applications won't have done much except damage). Wait a month after your last dye, and do a strand test to see how much it lifts.
BTW you can get a passable purple on top of ginger, but for lavender/pale purples you need a really pale blonde base.

I bleached two weeks ago, but have used the toning shampoo again today...it seems to have calmed the ginger down a little more. I am a novice in the hair bleaching/dyeing world!! and have only ever used box dyes and bleaches...hence not knowing which peroxide to buy from Sally's.....I thought there might be a starter kit for novices, but can't see anything like that, it seems to be more aimed at people who already know what they are doing!!!!

Sally's is principally a supplier to professionals. If you don't want to buy the ebay kit (looked a good price to me)
this is Sally's basic bleach powder http://www.sallyexpress.com/salons-powder-bleach-blue/ and this is their basic peroxide http://www.sallyexpress.com/salon-services-peroxide-creme/ I use this peroxide and have used this bleach before. I am currently using Wella Blondor http://www.sallyexpress.com/blondor-soft-blonde-cream/ which is a cream bleach, but works out a lot more expensive. I have managed to get two root applications out of the tube, where the 500g tub will do several full head applications. The only thing you have to be careful of is the strength of peroxide. 20 vol (6%) will be strong enough for you (it is sold in 10, 20, 30 and 40 vol generally) You have longer to apply the bleach and are less likely to fry your hair off or burn your scalp with 20 vol πŸ™‚
When you get your purple dyes, you can use those to tone the orange out. Add a small amount to your conditioner to tone the blonde parts, then make it a stronger mix for the orangey parts. (Ideally you would use a blue to tone the orange.)

Thanks for your helpful explanations Wicked Pixie........I think I'll get the eBay set then and give that a go on the ginger in a couple of week, and experiment with the dyes for now!
Thanks again πŸ™‚

Hi all....well, I've gone purple!!
I did some chunky strand tests in the back of my hair (with the help of my daughter) and the colours turned out so lovely that I have taken the plunge and dyed my roots/top section Directions Lavender and the lengths in Plum......it looks great, but I still have a chunk of ginger!! It has toned down a lot though so actually is a pinky light brown...and because of the positioning, it looks as though I meant to leave it un-dyed, luckily πŸ™‚

I have bought some more dye, Lavender, Violet and Cerise, and also the bleach from eBay....I was thinking the cerise will look good on the bits that didn't take - do you think it will go over them as it is, or will I need to bleach first (I really want to leave bleaching as long as possible, for fear of wrecking my nice new colour and because my hair still feels a bit dry when rinsing and I'd like to get some condition back into it)???

Thankyou so much for all your advice and recommendation of these amazing colours - I can't believe they take so well!

Hi didnt want to read and run, love the deep purple think you should do it all over the roots too, i think it looks better when the roots are darker and the ends lighter rather than the other way around, easier to maintain too, happy colouring πŸ™‚

Hi al1ce, thanks...I love the deep purple too πŸ™‚

My ends are darker than my roots, from staining by 6 years of dyeing with Live Colours Mystic/Cyber Purple. The lighter colour suits my skin tone better, that was why I put the Lavender at my roots, and why I wanted to get away from the Live Colour....it seemed to be getting darker and darker with less purple showing through.

I am loving the way the different shades blend together and the Plum looks really vibrant in the sunlight........I'm really looking forward to seeing how they fade together too!

You could totally put pink over the top of that for a pink-purple gradient πŸ˜€

It looks lovely!

I added the cerise! and I love it!! I re-did the Lavender at the roots too, for a stronger colour.
I soaked for 5 hours and now have no natural hair left, lol!
Here are the results:
(the ends look black, they are actually a lovely deep purple which glows in the sunlight!)
