Hot roots + ombre with red hair. Help!!

Hello girls!
So, I just recently got my hair dyed a copper red at a salon. Before my salon visit, I had virgin dark brown hair and a blonde ombre. I already expected my ends to be lighter and wash out faster because they were already bleached. However, walking out of the salon, I ended up with hot roots, a darker mid shaft and lighter ends. I love the color of my roots and ends, I just don't know what to do about my mid shaft :/ . I specifically asked the colorists if she had to bleach my hair to get me to the color I wanted (I showed her a picture) and she said no, that she didn't want to bleach me if she didn't have to. I was kind of shocked, but I trusted her. To began to apply a mix that had red tint to it, which I assumed was just dye. But within a couple of minutes, I felt my scalp start to itch/burn. It obviously had a lifting solution -_-.
