Home dye on my already highlighted hair

Hi All!

I am naturally medium blonde but have it professionally highlighted as blonde as the salon will allow, i don't think they use bleach but can't be certain. I'm starting to find it all a bit too expensive and want to go to home dyes but i'm scared my hair will go ginger. I want a Gwen Stefani type look, can anyone advise on the best brands or whether i'll need to prep my hair in any way?

Thanks!

Helen

So do you want to go from a full-head of highlights to an all over colour, or do you want to continue with the highlights?

What you want is not going to be easy. You can start doing solid roots, but you won't be able to put a colour or bleach over the highlighted areas. To get the natural parts light enough would mean over-processing the already lightened areas, risking damage and breakage.
Explain what you are planning to your stylist and ask them to put as many highlights as possible through the already highlighted area, so it is as blonde as possible. You can then lighten the under parts yourself and start doing solid roots.
She may be able to recommend products for you, (some salons will sell you a colour rather than have you use box dyes) if your hair is naturally blonde you can possibly use a high lift colour, if not you will need a really good professional quality bleach. Your stylist will know how easily your hair lifts so is the person to ask.

I'm less bothered about how blonde it is and more bothered that it's all the same (or similar) colour so is easier and cheaper to manage going forward. The last time I had it coloured in any way was 10 weeks ago and the roots are showing through. I guess what I'm really asking is what would happen if I put Nice & Easy natural light summer blonde (SB1) all over my head, would it be a catastrophe?!

Thanks!!

Yes lol a total catastrophe!
It probably wouldn't lighten your natural hair enough, so would be brassy/orange toned (although I am guessing here as I have never seen your hair) and the already highlighted areas would be damaged.
So you will probably get orangey hair with fried highlights, not a great look.
If you can post a pic of your current hair it will really help

Lol oh dear, that doesn't sound good, i've attached a picture that was taken at the weekend. I'm due to get my hair done on Thursday and I can't afford to get it coloured but really need my roots touching up! So any advice would be so helpful!
