Hi,
My name is Gayle and for the last 20 years, I have been dyeing my hair pink.
A few months ago I decided I wanted a change and put purple in at the bottom, blue in the middle and pink at the top.
I used special effects dye.
The problem I am having is that even though I am careful rinsing separately, the purple has taken over the blue and made the pink go an odd colour.
I have tried colour B4 but all it did was fry my hair and didn't touch the purple.
I am using clarifying shampoo on it but it's stuck fast. I just want to get it light enough so it can look pink again.
Does anyone have any advice or is a bleach bath my only option?
Thanks in advance π
Stay away from the bleach, whatever you do! There's always a possibility when you bleach purple that it will turn green.
Something sounds a little odd though. Purple taking over blue is possible. But purple turning pink a strange colour sounds odd. What do you mean by strange colour? I'm just trying to work out if there's something else going on here. What actual colours did you use from Special Effects?
ColourB4 doesn't fry hair, but it can dry it out a lot which can feel the same. You just need a good conditioning treatment to sort it out.
Here's a great thread for different methods of fading colour http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php/topic,1704.0.html
A bit more harsh is this http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php/topic,13842.0.html I have issues with it, but it seems to work more often than not. If your hair is very delicate though, it's not the best method.
The purple has made the pink go a bit grey and bleuch.i used special effects atomic pink, pimpin purple and fish bowl.
The purple has completely taken over the blue, your think I'd dyed the whole section purple. Oddly when I wash it, the water isn't overly purpley though
And by fried, I meant mega dry and crispy like you said π
Despite all the bleaching over the years, my hair was in really good condition before all this π
I know the easy option would be to dye it all purple but after being pink for so long, it just wouldn't be me!
Thanks for your reply, going to try the bleach powder method and I'll report back π
Hmm, it sounds to me a bit more like the green in the fish bowl has made the pink grey. The pink could have also contributed to taking over the blue. Pink and blue make purple π
Did you use many products with silicone in? It's possible it was never in that great condition and now all the clarifying shampoo washing has stripped all that and it feels how it is.
I don't think you should try the bleach powder method. It really sounds like your hair is probably too fragile for it. It's harsher than ColourB4.
Why didn't I think of that! Duh, I'm having a thick day today it seems ???
I use body shop rainforest shampoo and macadamia deep repair masque as conditioner. It has amodimethicone in it but thought that was the best silicone if I have to use one. Can't find another conditioner thats as good unfortunately. I also use lush r&b but think that's OK too although I could be wrong.
My water could be adding to the dryness. It comes from a well and we just changed the filters as they were a bit manky. Could just be something in the water till the tanks flushed through.
Thanks again for your help π π
Well, silicone isn't inherently bad, you just have to be aware that what you're feeling is a product of silicone and might not represent any issues you might have. By doing a lot of washing with clarifying shampoo you're washing off any build up you might have had and preventing any more build up. That way you're likely feeling the true nature of the damage your hair has got.
I tried the joico k-pak as recommended by people on here but I can't honestly say it made a difference. I'll try coconut oil next. Tried pure Argan oil about a year ago and it left my hair like straw. Think the usual things just don't work on my hair!
What texture is your hair? Curly?
Hi,
Sorry I never realised you'd replied again, think I need to fiddle with my forum settings!
My hair is quite long and almost straight.
Tried the bleach powder and shampoo last night. It took a lot of the dye out what was originally blue but didn't touch the special effects purple. Usefully I forgot to take pictures!
Dyed the whole top pink and left the purple underneath. It's now pink that gets darker as it goes down, quite nice really. And better than that, it looks like I spent a lot of time doing it that way and like I meant it!
Plastered my hair in k-pak and it's actually made a difference. Think my dry hair is because we have the heating on full pelt here as it's below freezing outside.
Thanks so much for your advice π
