I'm typing in tears. I have been doing my hair bleach with a toner the last 8. months (since my husband was laid off/salon far too expensive), On one occasion, I applied heat to speed the process and it broke. However, learning the hard way, keeping away from heat is the key with my hair. Since removing heat, I've bleached with up to a 30v (usually 20v) with little to no noticeable damage. I also work from home, so if a mishap occurs, it's no biggie. Still, with all I've read about the damage bleach can do, I thought it might be good to remove bleach from my routine and found several reviews about clairol Soy4Plex lift without bleach. Needless to say it hasn't worked and on 2 days I'm going to meet with family I haven't seen in 20 years. π
Rewinding back - I started off with Mother of Dragons violet base toned locks (Wella
T14 or T18 with 3 capfuls of 050 toner) and roots that are between a 6-7 shade (lots of gold).
Last week, I was advised at Sally's to use Clairol Soy4Plex 9AA BV with 20v developer for 30 min. This left me, after toning with fiery orange roots. I ended up overtoning with purple shampoo which didn't help but to give me a blotch of purple. Although, I know this will fade so, I'm not too worried. To make matters worse, i was sold an eyebrow lightener and now have very blonde eye brows which adds to what I have going on further up.
Last Saturday, I went back and was advised to use Wella Toner T14 with 20v developer. Needless to say - I still had orange roots (lighter but orange).
I went back today and was told this was due to the developer and advised to buy the 30v instead along with another bottle of 7AA Soy4Plex to apply on my roots as this would for sure remove the orange and dye the roots. Once more I'm left with orange roots and slightly lighter hair in the middle with some over toned purple strands around the center. Think of an ombrΓ© Easter egg - orange - white - light ash blonde π
Normally, after the first time I would have waited since I am usually at home and the dogs and kiddos don't mind mom's sometimes overtoned hair. But, now going to a different city and seeing family I haven't seen forever, I really had hoped for this to come out at least without the orange never mind the color....add the brows issue in and I just can't stop crying.
Is there any advice anyone might have for me? I would be so very grateful. At this point if I could end up with a pretty medium ash blonde I would be extatic.
So, I know over processing is a huge no no but I'm in a time crunch and have been using protein packs to help in between. I'm willing to go back to a bleach if needed for the orange roots and whatever suggested for the eye brows. I swear I've never had such huge issues before and now regret moving away from the bleach and am not sure where to start to get to normal by Friday.
I'm sorry it's all gone wrong.
The thing with anything that lightens, it does the same as bleach, only adds some colour as well. It's just as damaging as bleach and often not as effective.
Sally's are mostly not great at giving advice. They're generally sales staff, not hairdressers or even experienced home dyers etc
Can you post a clear picture of what you have? I can't promise lots and lots of help, we're a small forum and really we're not about getting blonde hair, we're more into bright fashion colours but somehow recently we're getting nothing but questions on blondes π If you can post a photo though, it'll help a lot so we can really see what's going on. Your description is pretty thorough but it can be difficult to imagine.
Hello and thank you any info you can give is appreciated. My little ones are all asleep around me but once they are up I can get a more clear shot. I hope this is helpful though. Typically, pink, purple or silver is what I go for. It's just this get together I was looking and tried for a neural. But, I've found you're right, a good bleaching since the beginning would have been best all around.
you can very easily hide this with some hair chalks or a temporary black hair spray (they are an aerosolized coloured powder that washes right out of your hair in the shower so no risk of damage or staining). It wont be the colour you want but it will make you feel less self conscious while youre meeting with family.
Dont cry its really not as bad as you described π you can fix that no problem but you need to wait a month for the orange roots so you dont damage your hair. in the mean time washing as normal will fetch out the overtoned lengths and the ash blonde and should bring you back to your khaleesi colour/pale yellow which you can then tone evenly
I'm not really sure what to suggest for your roots as I'm not the best with blondes as my own hair lightens very easily, but just wanted to second what Janine said about the lighteners generally doing the same as bleach but less effectively - the best course of action for minimising damage is usually to bleach just the roots with a good quality bleach and tone the whole thing with a toner made from conditioner with a few drops of direct dye mixed in (or a silver or purple shampoo) to maintain the correct shade.
If it makes you feel any better I have a friend who does her hair to purposely look like yours does at the moment, she has lilac lengths and leaves her dark blonde roots natural - it looks quite cool!
As for the eyebrows I'd suggest getting a brow mascara, I'm assuming you're in the US and I'm not sure what brands you would have access to but many of the drug store brands do them. (if you are happy to go a bit higher in price and they have the brand where you are I can recommend the Benefit brow mascara, it's very natural looking!. If all else fails, I've used a watered-down brown normal lash mascara before now (just rinsed some of the product off the wand, blotted it, then applied it to the brows.). You can buy brown brow dyes but I wouldn't dye yours again after lightening them, I'd just use a cosmetic product til they grow back in (shouldn't take very long).
I don't have suggestions for the hair, cause I'm not sure what to suggest, but brows I can definitely help with. My preferred method for filling in my brows is Anastasia brow wiz in soft brown, the only problem is the price its $18 but for me its worth it because I love the color and the firmness of the product. I have used many things though to fill mine in, I have naturally blonde eyebrows, to the point of almost white, and instead of dealing with dying them, I just fill them in. On my lazy days I use covergirl brown mascara, a couple swipes and I'm good, and on days I want to look extra nice I will go all out and use my brow wiz with a clear brow gel to really lock it in place, and let me tell you I have to scrub that stuff off, it last extremely well and I've had the same pencil for about 8 months and still have product, you use very little, and I love that it comes with a spooly on the end to help just in case you go heavy handed. I've also used straight up brown eye shadow to fill them in, I just suggest getting a brow gel to set it, I use ELF clear brown gel, its $1 and works great.
