Help- painful scalp

I have really short hair (typical guy length, light brown), got it dyed red today after bleaching.

My hairdresser started "painting on" the bleach with a brush and after about 3 minutes of the first round of bleaching (there were 2 in total) my scalp started burning/sizzling/itching everywhere, I could barely take it. I didn't say anything because I really wanted to just get it over with. It got worse when she put the "heating mask" over me.

Now I am home a few hours later, and I still feel a burning sensation all around my scalp. Help? I don't know what to do

Unfortunately, you almost certainly have chemical burns. If you can, get some aloe Vera and some anti septic/bacterial creams and apply to the worst spots. I'm afraid it's likely to stay painful for a while and will very likely scab at least a bit. You should hopefully just need to calm it down a bit and keep it clean to avoid infection.

If you start to get any swelling or you get worried about it and have a lot of pain, go to your local ER/A&E or doctor and get it checked out.

Never let a hairdresser bleach your hair twice in a row ever again. It's really quite dangerous for this reason and I'm disgusted when I hear of hair dressers doing it, they should know better but too many do it. You need to have dirty hair for bleaching, the dirt and grease helps protect not only your hair, but also your scalp from the bleach. If you do a second round, not only are you lacking that barrier, but you're also putting it on a scalp and hair in a raw state.

You should be ok, but as I said before, if it gets too painful go to the hospital. Keep an eye out for any swelling, anything weeping or oozing (lovely!) or looking very raw. Again, as I said before, it's likely to scab over in places, don't pull any hair out of any scabs for a few days as you want to be careful to let them heal and avoid infections.

I'm sorry you've had to go through this, I know it's very unpleasant.  πŸ™

I am so sorry you've gone through that. I hope it eases up soon. Certainly follow the above advice. There are too many hairdressers that double process (or more!) peoples hair and it is so bad.

The more I think about this, the more disgusted I am. Someone with light brown hair should never need two bleaching processes done, ever. But especially not for red. Red can go over ginger for heavens sake, it didn't need to be paler than that and you could ave had the brightest fire engine red you could ever have wanted. It really bothers me that there's hairdressers out there that don't know this, but so many continue to slam home hairdyers. Ugh.

especially as the hair was short, so it's not like there was long length that may have not been covered. I think the hairdresser didn't really know what they were doing, and/or trying to get the most money out of you by doing extra that didn't need doing
