Hi... It's been real ages since I last posted here, but I come to you in hopes that you'll know what to do, because I'm not sure myself.
My hair has been an electric blue for the last year or so (you can imagine the number of bleachings that implies, since my hair is like a dark ash blonde), and I lately decided I wanted the upper part of my hair to be silver, that is, having a silver-blue ombre. The color I've chosen for the 'silver-ish' part was Manic Panic's Blue Steel.
With that purpose, I let the color fade as much as I could (you can see the state of my hair color before the bleaching in my profile pic) and I proceeded to bleach it. Like I said, I only bleached the UPPER HALF of my UPPER layer of hair, so it's a fairly 'small' area. I did two bleachings within the space of a few days, but even though I was careful, I think I've f- up a little bit.
A part of the bleached area, the one that's whitest of all, it's gone all the way down chewing-gum-road. It's not very, very bad: Just a chunk of hair whose upper half is breaking, but it can still be brushed without me going bald . The Manic Panic dye should arrive home any time now and my intention is to dye all the bleached upper half of my hair with it, but I don't know if filling my hair with color again will so much as reduce the amount of breaking.
I already slept with my hair soaked in coconut oil and have sulphate- and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner, so I don't know what else I could do to fix it, even if just a little bit. At the moment I'm trying not to go all *ott*, because I already fried my hair once, two years ago, but from what I remember it was a LOT worse back then (short story: tried to go white after elumen bright red. Fried ALL my hair and had to have it cut Emma Watson style). The thing is, my hair lenght is like past the shoulders now and I'd hate to cut it.
So little help, please? ANY solution other than cutting it? π
Thanks! *anyone*
Once it's damaged to that point, there's nothing you can do other than cut it I'm afraid. You can try a protein treatment to try and put a bit of stability back into the hair shaft but once it's shattered at a structural level, there's not much else to do other than cut out the damage.
In future, never bleach to white; it's best to bleach to a pale yellow and tone with a non oxidative toner. If you can't get it to the level you want in one go, wait for at the very least a month and baby your hair (protein treatment, no heat styling etc) until you can bleach again with a very low vol peroxide.
Sorry it's not what you wanted to hear.
Thanks for being honest... I think I want to try everything I can before having it cut, since it's just like a big strand of hair that's breaking. I'm going to order Joico K-Pak reconstruct, which is full of protein, and give it a go. If not... I can always go to the salon.
If your hair is a dark blonde you should be able to get it light enough for any colour with one bleaching. Just one. There is no need to bleach again, fade your colours out and only bleach the re-growth. Repeated bleaching is where you are going wrong, bleach damage is cumulative.
You can try protein, keratin treatments and heavy silicones, but they are just going to be temporary fixes. TBH the condition is just going to get worse and the only solution is to cut it.
