I would really appreciate any advice I'm in a complete nightmare I had the colour and condition and length I always wanted my hair is a dark to medium brown. but had my roots coloured before Christmas by a supposed professional and successful bleaching the roots blonde happy but then toner left on my hair too long turning it blue at the roots was told then panic from The person doing my hair and adding more bleach scrubbing on my roots to bleach out a toner ???? Then some of my hair then snapped near the roots as too much and I was convinced even though didn't want to lose my hair colour blonde had to go dark was bullied hair a warm ginger brown now and hate it. Is it ever possible to go this blonde again how long should I leave it before bleaching blonde again absolutely really devastated and the salon won't even offer even though admitted in the wrong for leaving toner on will offer little to no help and treatments for hair. Any advice even how I could do this myself would be appreciated
When you say they made you go darker after your hair was over-bleached, do you know what they used? Was it a permanent, a semi permanent or a direct dye? And how soon after the bleach incident did they do the dark colour?
Sorry to be harsh and the bearer of bad news but if your hair was snapping off near the root you may just have to learn to live with the colour and concentrate on babying your hair and looking after it as much as possible. It can take up to a month for the true extent of damage to show up after bleaching so don't chance anything else on it!
There are treatments you can do to help hair that has been badly damaged and some of the people on here who are more used to going very blonde will be able to advise you better than I can, but unfortunately you cannot fully repair hair that is breaking off.
I'm sorry to hear this happened to you, it really does sound like they did a terrible job! The very least they could do is offer you some conditioning treatments, however I have to say that I personally would not let them anywhere near my hair again!
Thankyou very much Laura, for your help and advice please say whatever you feel I don't take any offence I'm Just very grateful for any advice anyone can offer me . I was a light highlighted light brown colour and very healthy hair before went first blond and that was in July so been the colour I wanted since July to December when the salon ruined whole colour and hair only when touching up my roots. There was no reason to leave the toner on for this amount of time I feel very negligent. and after the thing he did was after as blue roots was to apply even more bleach rubbing the scalp hard to try to bleach out the toner out when the roots were just bleached blonde successfully ????I did say before I'm happy without having today the toner. The colour I was bullied to go is apparently a semi permanent and by L'Oreal. Would it ever be possible to bleach again ? Only when healthy and how will I know if it's ready could this colour be stripped out at all I've heard of vitamin c and would this be a bleach too to do? I am really not touching my hair until I'm safely able to do so but not surprised Near roots broke at the roots for the amount of bleach he applied there . Terrible salon that will not even let you speak with the manager I spend allot on my hair especially this salon and I feel so shocked at what happened and devastated. Any recommended treatments would help many thanks Laura 👍🏻
And to add that my hair was healthy even since going blonde till December when only roots meant to be bleached
My concern is that the brown they put on may have also been a dye that contained harsh chemicals, meaning that if the toner was also the type they mix with developer then she did 4 chemical processes on your hair in one day! that is never a good idea and you are right it is negligent of them.
There are ways you can fade or remove unwanted colour, you can wash your hair with Head and Shoulders or other dandruff shampoos, as you say you can use the vitamin C method or there are colour removers you can try however I must say that if your hair is breaking I would not try any of them at the moment as even though they are not damaging necessarily on their own, they are probably not very good for damaged hair.
The problem with it being your roots that have become damaged is that even if the lengths still feel healthy if the roots are badly damaged it will still break off at that level.
I know the Emmer had some good advice for the last person who had a bleaching disaster on here, so it might be worth you having a read through the bleaching and lightening section and seeing what products and techniques were recommended for people who had their hair damaged by bleach, I'm not the best person to advise you on products as I've not tried many I'm afraid.
It's worth adding that damage travels up the hair so be very careful with the sections that have broken and trim them if you can, it is always worth cutting off damaged ends where hair has broken as they will split and this won't allow for the hair to grow back healthily.
As for whether you will be able to bleach your hair again, I would not advise bleaching the section that is damaged again no, hair cannot repair even if you rest it (it can be patched with protein treatments but these can be drying so even these might be risky for you at the moment). You would be able to bleach virgin hair that grows through, but you would have to be careful not to overlap onto the damaged hair.
Again, I'm really sorry this happened to you, I understand how upsetting it must have been
The fact that you said they scrubbed the bleach into your scalp makes me want to scream, they are basically trying to ruin your hair at that point. never ever ever should you scrub bleach onto your scalp. Unfortunately I have no good news, when damage is that high at the root and snapping off, I feel like even if you lived in a hair mask and took baths in coconut oil there is no real way to repair what they did to you.
The other issue like lauralei said is that damage travels upwards so if your having breakage by the root and it travels to the root it could forever damage that hair follicle and you will always have damaged hair growing from that point if the follicle is damaged, or worse it would create a bald spot. (I had a friend that this happened to and she ended up buying wigs to wear because her hair never grew back) I'm truly not trying to scare you, I just want to warn you how bad this could potentially be.
My best advice would be to absolutely leave your hair alone for at least a month, meaning no fading treatments, no processing the hair, just use hair masks and oils and keep your hair as moisturized as you can at all times. I wouldn't use any heat or blow dryers, just treat it like flower petals and see after a month what the full extent of the damage is and make a better assessment at that point. I can pretty much guarantee a good hair cut is going to be in order, but I wouldn't even put your hair through a hair cut right now, they do a lot of brushing and pulling during a hair cut and your hair just can't take that right now.
I was thinking that too Emmer, perhaps get a friend to trim any frazzled ends, but I don't think I'd go to the hairdressers just yet either, I wouldn't put it through the potential blow drying etc.
Thankyou emmer and Laura, for your advice. for now will def leave well alone and try to put moisture back in. My hair isn't breaking and I feel the conditioning treatments are making it look and feel much better lots of r and r and be weary of some hair salons how this person destroyed my beautiful blonde colour only on root touch up is completely shocking. Many thanks to you both
You're welcome, I hope everything works out ok for you.
Honestly, I learnt pretty much everything I know about colouring hair from reading through this forum and asking questions if I needed help and now I wouldn't dream of trusting a salon to do it for me
