Hair won't lighten?

Hi there πŸ™‚ im a little bit stumped and would love some advice before I give in and turn to a hairdresser .. Sigh.
My hair is naturally dirty blonde, went brown, red, black, back blonde, bleached blonde, finally a year ago while I was pregnant I died it a chocolate brown, got some blonde highlights in and left it ever since.

Fast forward to now, it has been over a year since I died it any colour, I have decided I want to go back blonde. I used a colour remover to take some of the brown left over in my hair which has brought me to a very light brown with blonde highlights. Figured I could lighten it up with an ultra light ash blonde and call her a day.
Just did a strand test and left the colour for 40 minutes, no change. Tried putting on some heat and leaving it for another 20 minutes and still no change! The dye I used is pretty much bleach and my hair colour isn't dark at all..

I'm stuck in a small town and all I have access to right now are drug store hair dyes.. I thought being so light already it would take 1 or 2 dyes and be good but didn't even lighten it a shade. I didn't want to go ahead with the whole head as my blonde roots are close to 3inches now and they would end up being white with light brown hair. Lol
Any advice? Is there perhaps a reason why my hair didn't lighten any at all?
Thanks in advance πŸ™‚

My guess is that there is still too much of the old dye in your hair, tint cannot lift tint. So another round of colour remover would be my next step.

Okay awesome Thankyou for the reply!
I used the colour oops, it recommends 20 minutes on the hair and rinse for 20, should I maybe leave it on for longer than 20? Or will that not make a difference?
Also when I used the colour oops, when I had dried my hair after it looked definitely lighter but that night I put coconut oil in my hair and the next morning my hair almost looked darker than it did after the colour oops.. Coincidence?
I was thinking of also grabbing a box of the feria ultimate platinum blonde.. Maybe I need something with a little bit more lifting power and then toning down when I get to my destined shade..
I know It would be easier going to a professional but I kind of like doing it myself and working towards what I want πŸ™‚ lol

I can't say about the timing on color oops as it's a US product and I'm in the UK. Most of our removers you can leave on for an hour, but I don't want to suggest that for a product I don't know!

The colour can come back, it's called re-oxidation. The colour molecules that shrank, but didn't get washed out, regrow and so the colour comes back. There's a lot of reasons this can happen. One is if you've used a lot of silicone products and hair straighteners. The straighteners can melt the silicone causing a, well, film all around the hair shaft. It means all the dye is locked in until it grows out. Or, it could be that you didn't wash your hair well enough before hand, so the molecules way out of your hair was blocked. This is an easy solution, wash with a clarifying shampoo, no conditioner, dry hair and then use the color oops.

Try color oops again. You can use then about 3 times. But make sure you wait about a week after using them before using a product with peroxide.

Okay, il go put some more on tonight.. So it's a good bet to put it on clean hair then? I do straighten my hair more often than I should. I have wavy hair that I like to straighten out 2-3x a week. Whoops. Lol
The good thing is colour oops has never left my hair orange at all in the past, so I can comfortably wait between uses and hair dyes and still like the colour it leaves me with.
I was quite worried that iv done this process one too many times and now my hair is 'dead' and won't cooperate anymore.
I guess because I feel my hair is in good healthy shape right now after not touching it with any dye and doing weekly deep conditioning  for so long and because there seems to be visibly no dye left (the colour is so close to my natural hair colour I can no longer see the difference between my roots and ends) that I thought it would lighten very easily but it seems harder than when I went from black to blonde!!

Ooh another question!!

I have been using colour oops, which is no bleach or ammonia, I have used loreal colour remover before which does use bleach and I remember it being much more effective, but more damaging.. And it did leave me with orangey hair..
Should I just go with the colour remover? Hmm decisions. lol

To get the most from your colour remover use it on clean, clarified hair with no conditioner. Keep it covered and keep it warm for the maximum time (All the removers I have used have been fine for an hour, not tried Color Oops)
Then rinse with very warm/hot water for longer than they recommend, and keep the hair moving. Rinsing really thoroughly helps to prevent re-oxidation
I would always go for a colour remover then bleach if you need to lighten further rather than a stripper. Colour removers are not damaging, whereas strippers are.

Well! I found colour b4 which I didn't know was in Canada but it is! πŸ™‚
Left it on for 60 minutes, wrapped in a bag with a towel around to keep it nice and warm. Rinsed everything for a good 25 minutes, and still no change in shade. Maybe a shade lighter on my ends at the front of my hair but that's the only difference I see.
Going to give it a week or so with a few conditioning treatments and then bleach I guess!!

Here is the colour I am at.. Under certain lights I look really coppery!!
