Hello,
I was wondering if I could get some advice on next steps for getting to a light base for blues and greens with minimal damage. First, some background on my hair: I left it alone to recover for about a year and a half at a medium blonde (lighter on the ends with my natural mousy blonde coming in as regrowth) before deciding it was long enough to start coloring it fun colors again. I started with purple, decided I wanted a lighter base, and began walking my hair up with bleach baths about once a month (at which point I'd do my roots as well) through the pink range.
At the beginning of October I found out I would be able to go on a six week trip I'd been planning, but would need a natural hair color for it. As I wouldn't be able to touch up my hair at all during the six weeks of travel, I opted for a permanent ash brown because I really didn't want the pink to show through. I retouched it right before I left at the start of November. I'm now back and want to get back to a base that will work for the blues and greens I was planning before I found out I'd be able to travel. Since getting back I've used Color Oops twice to remove as much of the brown as possible, but I think it's probably time to resort to bleach of some sort. I did the second Color Oops last night, and haven't deep conditioned it yet, so my hair looks dryer in the pictures than it will be when I bleach. I was running late for work as well, so I only finger brushed my hair - the color should be pretty accurate though.
My main questions are:
1. How long should I wait before bleaching since I just used a color remover?
2. Spot bleach vs. bleach bath vs. straight all over bleach?
3. Is it worth trying another color remover? I've already used Color Oops twice, only used two applications of permanent dye, and have only seen slight shifts in color with the applications thus far, but I really want to avoid as much damage as possible.
4. Any general advice really, I've been dying my hair for a while but really want to avoid as much damage as possible while getting back to a nice base for direct dyes.
Thank you so much for any help, I really appreciate it!!
1. You should wait a week between colour removers and bleaching your hair as bleach can make the dye reoxidise and make your hair darker again.
2. All of your hair needs to be lighter for a bright blue shade, so I would suggest trying another brand of colour remover just to try to get more of the dye out before you bleach. After that I think your best bet is to do all over bleach baths over coconut oil to try to gently lighten your hair. You want to put coconut oil on at least two hours before you bleach, I try to do it overnight to help protect your hair while bleach bathing. You can bleach bathe every 1-2 weeks.
3. It's always worth trying another colour remover if you have done less than three and still have colour in your hair π
4. That's pretty much it really, baby your hair with a reconstructor like joico k-pak reconstructor and a deep moisturising conditioner between bleach baths and don't take it too fast. Good luck lightening your hair π
