Hi Gang! I am new to the forum and have a question about toning. For the past year I have been dying my hair myself to save on cost π It's been going great so far with touching up my roots and toning my hair to keep it a platinum/silver blonde.
I am in need of my roots re-touched and since Halloween is coming soon I want to do a more honey blonde this time around for my costume idea. What are some steps I can take do to that? I was going to bleach the roots and tone them to match my current color but what can I do to get my platinum more warm colors again?
Thanks! ;D
You can get warmer blonde wash in/wash out toners. What country are you in? π
Superdrug do a range of rinses if you want something temporary. Apply to wet hair like a shampoo and leave for 5 minutes. http://www.superdrug.com/Superdrug/Superdrug-Colour-Effects-Honey-Blonde-8%3A03/p/401048
As your hair has already been bleached to platinum be very wary of anything you mix with peroxide, especially box dyes as they don't state what strenth they contain. Even L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss, it calls itself a "semi-permanent" but still has enough peroxide in to possibly tip your hair over the edge, especially if used repeatedly to refresh the colour.
Ah thanks for the heads up on the box dyes that was the route I was going to head. I'm in the states. I was going to head to Sally this weekend and see what they have for toners. I just wasn't sure if a honey blonde toner would work with whitish hair. Also, is it save to use a 20 developer with the toners? I'll look for the wash in ones first!
10vol at the very most. I know the Wella toners say to use 20vol but bugger that. As you're in the US you'll be able to find Roux Fanci-Full rinses in a series of blonde shades in your local Sally's, they'll be all you need.
Same applies for toners with peroxide as for box dyes. Though it's better as you know the strength, your hair is already bleached, if you can avoid peroxide it's always a better idea. Besides, do you not want to go back to the platinum too? I'd assumed you did? Much easier to come back from a wash in/out one π
I'm in the UK, so I don't know of any brands of toner, but it might be worth looking in drug stores as well as Sally's. You don't need anything fancy. Just make sure it doesn't contain peroxide or two bottles you have to mix. You want a direct dye.
What about just dye instead of toner mixed with a little conditioner? I honestly am done after this π too much work to stay blonde and coming in to the winter I want to go back to my more natural brown :-X
What dye?
Adore dyes can be mixed and diluted with conditioner to make blonde shades. My favourite mix is Mocha (which is warm) and Medium Brown (which is very ash) you can make most shades of blonde with those two dyes, although you would need blue/violet if you wanted a very ashy blonde.
