Hi everyone my name is Jenna and I'm 24. I had been dying my hair L'Oréal hicolor in magenta for about 7 months. My hairdresser suggested I use ion color instead since It was less damaging so I did that overtop the hicolor. Then I decided I wanted to go blonde lol. I started the process last night. I used 1 application of color oops to strip the red which kind of lifted it a little but by no means got rid of it. After that I dried it and began bleaching. I left it on for an hour and then rinsed. Parts of my hair turned blonde while the other parts turned a combo of red/pink/orangish. Last night I lathered my hair with coconut oil and left it in overnight. This morning I tried to only bleach the parts that weren't blonde. Again it stripped some color but it was definitely still there this time a pink ish color. I towel dried my hair applied more coconut oil and did a bleach bath leaving it on for 30 mins. A lot came out but there's still some pink at the crown and towards the ends. Should I do another bleach bath? What else can I do to get the pink out? I'm going for like a step below platinum if that helps like a gold blonde.
Just to be clear, have you done 2 bleaches and a bleach bath in the space of 2 days? If so please don't do anything else with bleach! It's generally recommended that you wait a month between full bleaches as it can take as long as that for the effects of damage to show up so it is hard to gauge whether your hair is up to it, for a bleach bath it is advisable to wait a week between applications.
Going from red to blonde is not something that can usually be done in one sitting and patience is key to making such a big change without sacrificing the safety of your hair (take it from someone who once had to cut waist-length hair into a short bob from bad bleaching choices!).
It may be that you need to use the colour remover again, they can be used 3 times before they don't work any further. There are other fading methods listed on this site but they tend to work best on direct (non permanent ) dyes. It is entirely possible that the pink is staining (and it can be driven further into your hair shaft by bleaching sometimes). If it is staining you may never fully get it out, but there is no real way to tell this until you have tried other options.
My advice would be rest it for a bit, there will be other people on here who might be able to advise you better on what your next step would be but I just wanted to jump in and advise about the timescale for bleaching.
Thanks for the info. I did 2 bleaches a day apart and 1 bleach bath. I'm gonna try color remover again but I've now realized that my hair is the color of a Barbie doll lol it's almost white!! Can I tone it or dye over i to get the golden blonde i want or do i have to get the orangish/pink color out first?
Yeah defo give it a rest, especially being so light- once it gets towards being white you are risking it breaking off if you over do it! I would advise that you avoid toners that you have to mix with a developer as they can cause additional damage and they still fade anyway!
I believe it's possible to dilute certain Adore direct dyes to make blonde toners (by mixing them with lots of conditioner) but with your hair being white-ish you need to be careful about the undertones in stuff as you can end up with unwanted red or green tones. That said I wonder if something with green undertones would pull your red bits towards looking more ashy?
Maybe if you find something that can give you gold tones the pink could give you a nice rose gold hint to those parts?
I have to say I quite like your white and pink hair, it looks like Shoshanna from Girls!
This is the time you need to baby your hair, I worry that even using a color remover can be too drying and you will see a lot of breakage, especially color oops. I would rest your hair at least a week and use deep conditioners and oils to revive it after the harsh bleaching, then don't use color oops again, it is overly harsh, the best one in the states is color fix, it has the same rotten eggs smell but is so much less drying than the color oops. And like lauralei said you can use them up to 3 times, so if you don't see anything the first time around just try 2 more times and then after all that see what your left with and we can make more suggestions from there.
