I've just had my hair lightened by a hairdresser but not impressed she was suppose to cut it one length for staters but she's layered it! How do I get the blonde bits lighter instead of orangey as my son kindly said I love your hair it's ginger 😂 Also I need to do my roots with a brown if I run it through some blonde will it work as she's put far to much in I'll try get photos up of what I wanted and how it's turned out

First thing, you have every right to go back and ask her to correct it, I personally am often reluctant to give someone another chance if they mess up, but it may be worth asking if there is another stylist who can work on it for you (at no charge obviously), often salons prefer to be given the opportunity to correct mistakes rather than have bad word of mouth spread about them!

Do you know what was used on you by any chance? Did she just lighten it or did she use a darker colour on the mid lengths? And what was your hair history, was it already colour treated/ what colour was it when you went in?

Thanks for your reply, she was a mobile hairdresser and like you said I would be very reluctant to have her again to be honest. My hair was coloured about 4 weeks ago with a brown but had faded but had a very warm tint to it! I have since done my roots with a brown and washed with a purple shampoo and it's toned down a lot I'm going to put a toner on it tomorrow I think.

Ah yeah, probably no point in trying to get her to sort it out in that case.
The  problem could be that she tried to lighten previous dyed brown hair, your best bet to lighten hair after a dark dye is to use a colour remover and then lighten from there.

Equally some of the unwanted warm tones could just be that it wasn't lightened past ginger (hair lightens from brown to ginger to yellow to blonde in that order so if it was only lightened a little it will still have ginger tones).

When you talk about using a toner, what exactly are you thinking of using on it? Something with peroxide or not? Something to make it cooler/blonder or something to darken it? Just so we can offer some tips if we can!

Edit: Just looked at your photo again and it does look like staining from the previous brown dye, you may have been able to get it out with a colour remover still, but seeing as you have already used your brown on your roots now it would remove that as well, so probably not worth it!

I did actually think it was strange she didn't even suggest a colour remover or anything I just went with her . I'll try and show the toner I've bought . If I was to put this on is it ok if it goes on the dyed brown?

I think I've just seen another of your posts about this saying that you already used the silver but it didn't work? Your hair looks too dark for a silver toner to have any effect, they are designed for hair that is very light (it is often referred to on here as 'inside of a banana peel' light yellow. )

In my experience hairdressers often just reach straight for the bleach and it's not always the best course of action, but colour removers take a while to use as you have to rinse your hair for a long time plus you can't use any dye that uses peroxide/developer straight after them without risking it re-oxidising and going dark again so I think it would take a couple of visits to a hairdresser if they did it for you!

Is it just the tips of your hair that you are trying to get to a light blonde? You could bleach bath them if you were confident on applying it to the right parts (once you have let your hair rest a bit after being bleached already, as it can take a month for damage from bleaching to show!) or if you are finding the purple shampoo is working you could try leaving that on a bit longer or making one from direct dye and conditioner. I personally found the Lee Stafford purple shampoo pretty good when I was blonde.

Yes I only used that toner as bought the silver one instead of the blonde one by mistake so thought I'd give it a go. So if I bought a purple directions dye and mix it with conditioner would it work? How long do I leave it on for? And how often can I do it? I will try a shampoo Aswell thanks

I know that some people do that with directions dyes but I'm not sure which ones they use (I know that you should avoid Directions Plum as it can fade green and it apparently rubs off really badly). It's probably worth your while to have a look at some other people's results on the show off your hair section on here and see what other people use.

You can do it as often as you like, Directions isn't damaging.
