So I've been bleaching/dying my hair blonde since November last year and I've always been super careful and successful with the results. Never had any problems... until last time, when I did probably everything that should not be done: washed my hair right before, left the bleach on too long, applied it to ALL my hair instead of only roots, then washed and immediately did a lightening coloration (I usually wait a few days between both, I use solfine natural 10 with 20vol peroxyde) which I also left too long and also applied everywhere instead of just my roots (i normally do roots and blend 10-15 minutes before rinsing).
Result? Platinum blonde, a bit lighter than usual, but my hair was DEAD. Stripped from all proteins/oils, some strands seemed to have melted together, couldn't untangle the web that they made either because the hairs just broke in my hands even by only passing fingers in them... I kinda freaked out. It didn't even curl anymore like it does naturally (??). So I went online and read for hours. Found this forum here (Hi!) and read everything about bleached/damaged hair. I did a routine that looked kinda like that:
2 days olive oil mask + sulfate-free gentle shampoo + joico kpak reconstructor + deep conditioner
1~2 days doing nothing to my hair
2 days coconut oil mask + sulfate-free gentle shampoo + joico kpak reconstructor + deep conditioner
1~2 days doing nothing to my hair
Repeated for 3 weeks with occasional avocado/mayonnaise masks.
So... It worked!! They curl again, they have volume again, they hold themselves together in big strands (instead of a rat nest), they don't break as easily. Awesome *loveeyes*
But! All this left my coloration in a terrible color.......... My hair is yellow now with golden-brown roots. Not my new roots, the roots I did last time! I'm using DIY toners (I put food colorant in my deep conditioner) to keep it at bay but *ill* it is NOT enough to fix them.
I wonder. If I wait it out a few weeks more, could I do another bleach (only on my roots) and coloration on the lenghts? Or maybe just a bleach (roots) + toner? Or just a coloration (root + lenghts)? I'm really scared of how my hair will react. It's pretty much all new proteins/oils in them, who knows how fast they will react compared to my real hair. What would be the most gentle option? Should I completely avoid any kind of lightening? I would really prefer staying blonde but if I'm gonna loose my hair, well, I could go back to my natural color (light-brown, not too sure about how to do this either).
If anyone could help me out, that would really be awesome! Thanks π

Great, but it's temporary. You need to keep doing it as the affects of what you've been doing will wash out and it'll go back to how it was before.
You need to never use any peroxide/developer on the lengths again. It will break off. You've had a lucky escape* but it sounds like there's little integrity left in the structure of your hair. You will have to make do with purple shampoo and toners made with conditioner and violet/blue direct dyes.
I think you'll just have to try purple shampoo and then live with it for a while until you need to do your roots next. Then you could pull the bleach through the roots area that needs a little extra lift for a few minutes before washing it off. You need to give your hair a rest from bleach altogether for a while. I've found even being near to bleach can add extra damage to already damaged hair.
*though you probably do need to get a good hair cut, the damage will travel up your hair regardless of what you've done to "fix" it
Thank you very much for your reply! π It answers all my questions, but leaves me with new ones ahah

Awww not even low volume/gentle coloring? I still got lots of Solfine natural color (platinum and ashy), I wonder if I could still use it but with VERY low vol (10?) or a substitute to the peroxyde? Just barely, just to cover?

Yes, so far it helps to neutralize and keep the color/tone from worsening. Do you think DIY purple/blue shampoo/conditioner are good enough? I use food colorant (blue and red) and put it in my existing hair products. It's soooo much cheaper and lets me use the products that already works great with my hair (but arent normally purple or blue). But it doesn't last very long, have to redo it every wash. Do you have any suggestions of colorant I could use to make better DIY toner?

"for a while" like until next roots (in 3-4 weeks) or "for a while" like let them alone all winter and try again next summer?

Yes I did, as it was suggested in other posts here π It helped a lot. I'd have a shaved head if it wasn't for the advices I found on this forum...
