*anyone*
Hi ^-^
So, I'm planning to go blonde for the first time in my life for my 26th birthday. I've seen tons of good and bad videos regarding bleaching your hair, but I'm still very confused/scared to do such thing.
My hair only has a small residue of an old red dye I gave myself about 1.5 years ago. I decided to be completely natural ever since. I deep condition every other week and do my LOC treatment (Leave-in, Oil, Cream) when I wash it.
I don't even know what to buy for me not to damage my curls. I heard about something called Olaplex (don't know if it's written well) that's given good results and I've seen women dress their hair with organic coconut oil about 3 hrs before bleaching.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. :-* ;D
I'm not going to pussy foot here. Bleaching WILL damage your curl pattern, at least a bit. It might not be too much, but there's every chance it could be a lot, even if you take all the precautions. So be very sure it's what you want before you start.
Olaplex seems to be good, I've been used it in the past, but it's not the saviour some you tubers make it out to be. It's also very hard to get hold of unless you have a very reliable supplier, or a hairdresser friend willing to get you some, and it's very expensive. Also, if you can only get part 3, it's probably not worth it.
Using coconut oil before is a good plan. It doesn't need to be organic, but it does need to be 100% coconut oil and cold pressed. If it's cold (under 23 degrees celsius) then melt a bit in the microwave (very carefully!) and cover your hair and leave it for at least an hour, overnight if you can, you might as well! I just put on a shower cap and a thin woollen hat to make sure it stays on as I sleep. Then you bleach with it still on your hair.
The absolutely MOST important thing I'll stress is get a really good bleach powder. Do not get a cheap one. I'm a fan of saving money where you can, and this is one time to not do that. Look for BlondeMe by Schwarzkopf, Blondor by Wella or Rapid Blond by Indola. There's other good ones, but those are all good ones that I've used in the past.
What colour is your natural hair and what colour do you want to go? This will determine the volume of peroxide you'll need, so let me know and we can assess. A photo would be great, and an example of what you want. This can be bought cheaply if you like! Most brands will have a "matching" peroxide, but it's something you can get away with not using with no side effects.
Never leave the bleach on your hair for longer than an hour. If it's not light enough by that point you'll have to come back to it.
Make sure you keep the room warm. If bleach gets cold it just won't work as well, but it will still cause damage. It'll result in hair damaged but not light enough!
That's all I can think of for now π Let us know what result you want and what colour your hair is now and we can go from there.
