Dyed hair- hair is now super crunchy and gross feeling

Hello everyone. I'm having a bit of an issue with my hair. 2 days ago I dyed my hair with an ion color brilliance dye, the kind that you mix with developer. My hair was super healthy and had no split ends, I had actually just gotten a trim the day before. I dyed my hair with the dye and for the past 2 days it's been super crunchy and hard feeling, like when you don't wash all of the conditioner out of your hair.

I'm confused as to why this is- I washed my hair until the water ran clear and i've taken 2 showers since then to try and get rid of the crunchiness. I've dyed my hair tons of times and have never had this issue. At first I was worried it was damaged, but my hair has withstood multiple rounds of bleaching in the past and it's never been this bad, so I doubt one round of hair dye would kill it. I'm really not sure how to fix this or why it even happened in the first place. Any advice would be appreciated!

Your hair can snap (figuratively and literally) at anytime. There's a whole host of reasons why this time might have been too far, but it's almost certainly heavily damaged now.

You could try a good protein treatment and a deep conditioner afterwards. It's been a while since I've looked into new protein treatments because my hair doesn't like them much, but Kpak Reconstructor or Aphogee Two Step are both good.

Wow! I guess i'll be stocking up on hair masks! I was confused because it felt damaged but I assumed my hair would be fine- it's been through so many crazy colors and rounds of bleaching and it's never felt this gross. Maybe it's because I haven't dyed my hair in months? Thank you for the advice!
