Colour remover whyyyyyyy?

I used a colour remover- Jo bazz extra strength- the other day to get a more even colour before doing my roots.

I have no idea what happened but my hair has turned to mush. The ends were dry before, but the rest of my hair felt fine, wasn't stretchy when wet, had it's healthy curl pattern.

Now it feels like chewing gum on the top layer, it's stretchy and breaking when wet. I don't get it. Even my old roots which have only been processed with one bleach bath before this are mushy. (you can easily see the part which has only had one bleach bath because it only lightened to dark blonde).

I genuinely don't understand what I've done. I can't even cut my hair off because I have an undercut that goes round the back and on both sides of my head and I will have almost no hair left.

AaaaaaaAaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaa

What the heck?  The last time I did a color remover my hair felt totally fine after - but then a week later I used ammonia to get out the rest of the color(a lot of it came back) and my hair flipped the eff out.  It stopped accepting moisture for awhile, but never got mushy.  I had to use a porosity equalizing conditioner to get it back to normal, then lots of protein.

Hmm, that is weird and possibly worrying! Have you done a deep conditioner?

Yeah, I've done everything like that. It's still chewing gummy. Now I'm just leaving it alone because touching it is making me upset. I have no idea why it reacted so badly.

Do you use any products with silicones? Sometimes they can mask damage that the color remover will then reveal.

No I'm not a fool :p I only co wash and haven't used silicones for years. I haven't even been putting coconut oil on my hair to style it or using a finishing conditioner when I wash my hair, so i had a pretty good idea of it's health.

oh no! Perhaps it was a bad box of colour remover? I had a bleach that was weird last year because of the heat in the shop I bought it from, luckily I could see something was off with it before I used it. Perhaps similar issue had effected your jo bazz? Have you got any joico you could put on your hair to help it feel a bit better?x

It could be. I've never used jobaz before, I usually use decolour or colour b4, so I might not have noticed if it was weird.

I always have some emergency kpak so I've used that and I have bought a new deep conditioner so hopefully it will feel a little better. It doesn't actually look bad when dry so I'm going to just live with it until it grows a bit and then get a cut.

It just sucks because I'm actually trying to grow it at the moment.

I figured you'd have probably done the conditioner, it was literally the only thing I can think of. Hmm. All very odd! Though I'm sure wicked pixie once said a colour remover did dry out her hair quite a lot, but I think that was decolour? Or I imagined that!

I hope it starts to come back to normal πŸ™

It was actually JoBazz extra strength that did a number on my hair too. It was just super dried out though, a trim and some deep conditioning sorted it out. It felt hideous at the time though, not mushy (I don't think my hair does mushy) but it definitely felt fried

I left conditioner on my hair all day today and now it definitely feels a lot better. Not amazing but almost not mushy, so I'm less freaked out now. Most of it is wavy again instead of just fluffy as well. So I'm a much happier Martha.

I'm going to cover the mess of colours the remover left with sfx electric blue and leave it for a good while before I do my roots because I really don't want to risk my hair snapping or anything.

Anyway, thanks for indulging my ranting! I feel bad whining about my hair to my family.
