Colour between bleach baths

Unfortunately, this is the problem with covering up a colour as you're trying to go lighter. Yeah, really you should aim to get it all out. When you bleach over dye you risk pushing the dye further into the hair shaft, but also you don't have a clear idea of what you're working with because even if you think you remember the colour it was, memory is not reliable.

I kind of feel rather than use a direct dye it might be better using a super diluted shade to tone the colour you have to something more liveable.

Not sure what you mean by " Which if so, there would be the problem of not bleaching after a shampoo"?

Ok thanks.  By that last line I mean, you aren't supposed to bleach the same day you shampoo.  So when I fade the direct dye I'll need to go a couple days at least after the last shampoo before I do another bleach bath.  My hair colour is so ugly right now I don't know if I can do it!

Well, it'll depend on the colour you have. If it's orange, heavily dilute blue. If it's green, heavily dilute pink/red depending on the kind of green. Basically the opposite of the colour you have.

I bet it's not as ugly as you think it is. Most of the time someone says that, it's the exact colour someone else wants or has 🙂
