Colour B4 after Bleach Bath ? Any point ?

Hello hair bods.

I have a couple of questions.

I’ve been dyeing my hair red with various box dyed for years. Xxl reds and more recently
garnier.

However for the last fifteen years my roots have been pretty much white around my face, and white and a darker silver everywhere else.

So for the last year or so I’ve been toying with changing my hair to silver grey and just letting those roots grow in naturally. Getting a friend to do the roots of the red dye job every month was getting a chore.

So, a hairdresser friend of mine warned me off colour b4 and their ilk. So I bleach bathed with Wella CC Creme 20 Volume and Slika Blue High Lift Powder Bleach, whilst absolutely drowned in coconut oil. (I low realise colour b4 before trying this woulda been better but - that ship has sailed !)
I’ve done this twice a week apart (second B.B. was today), and my hair is in pretty good nick (I’m fact I’m surprised how good it is, as I’ve bleached before years ago and it hasn’t been !)
I have a touch of silver shampoo and conditioner,
Plus Aussie 3 minute miracle (which is magic stuff !)

Today I’ve had Directions Silver on it for several hours and it’s taken a lot of the brassy tones out, but there are still some in there. (Quite a lot in fact as the attached pic shows. That’s taken in early evening sun so, maybe not quite that gold ? Maybe. !)

My question is - would colour b4 be any use now, in view that I’ve B.B.ed twice ?
I don’t want to bb again for a while as I don’t want to push it. But there’s quite a bit of yellow / rose still in there so if it can come out without risking more damage them all well and good. Would colour b4 damage my hair at all ?

(I have Pravana ChromaSilk Vivids Silver on order. I don’t mind if I’m a darker grey / silver - I don’t require a pale silver or anything like that.
If colour b4 would be of no use I might just strand test the pravana and see what that’s like. )

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Sorry about the sideways pic - my and this forum interface aren't yet friends. 😉

I wish I knew why so many hairdressers are so dead against colour removers. I've had them tell me they're worse than bleach and "it's your funeral if you use them". Even though I've used them loads of time for many years now and I have literally no problems with them other than the occasional colour reoxidating after it looked like it had been removed.

Any way, yes, it's worth a try. But don't expect miracles. Red is a swine to remove, especially build up and live xxl even more.

I think you'd struggle with even a dark grey on what you have now. It's likely to turn muddy brown. You might not even get much of a result at all. As far as I'm aware pravana silver is on the paler side. You'd need a charcoal grey at least.

JanineB .... many thanks for your reply. Maybe hairdressers sometimes want our business so --- ?
(They're unlikely to get mine - haven't visited one for years 😉 )

I'll try a colour remover then. I'll have a gander in the pinned posts to see what is best for here (UK).

If I have to wait and bleach bath again in a month or so then, I'll have to. My hair isn't in too bad condition now but - let's not tempt fate 😉 I have the k-pak reconstructor that people seem to love so much. I'm not quite sure which moisturising conditioner or treatment to use after it though - I have Aussie 3 minute miracle but at the moment reconstructors are new to me so discerning which does what is something I'm having to read up on.

In the meantime it's quire odd being a blonde after so many years of red. 😉

There's nothing stopping them using colour removers! I think it's more about education.

I'm glad you're happy to do it slowly, it's the best way 🙂

Slow and steady wins the race. So they say.
(Or in this case “is less likely to fry your hair” 😉 )

Latest update - I did a Colourb4 and it did seem to take some of the remaining gingery red out.
Husband was convinced his dog was making a smell and kept blaming him, until I explained that it was the hair gunk ! Poor boy dog gets all the blame. ;).

I think there could be more to come out so I’ll try another colourb4 in a few days.

Further to this ...
second lot of colourb4 done. Man, my hair smells !

I’ve read that in order to minimise the risk of reoxidisation that I should wash my hair in a baby shampoo or similar. I assume because it’s ph neutral, like the buffering shampoo.

I don’t have any of that on hand but I do have a bottle of the buffering shampoo that came with the coloirn4 (I used two boxes the second time round as I’ve got long hair).
Would this be ok instead ? Thanks.

Yeah, use that. Never heard of the baby shampoo thing. But, for those of us that use bright hair dyes, it's lesser known thing to not use baby shampoo, it strips colour really badly because of the PH neutral thing, so you're probably right.

It makes sense - sometimes I’ve heard it said that baby shampoo can take colour out.

Eventually I’ll get there.

In the meantime I don’t know what to wear - all my clothes colours are wrong for blonde. Lol.

Thanks again for your continued advice. 🙂

Further update.
A gentle bleach bath with 20 volume developer  done on Thursday.
Then toned with a home made veggie dye toner.

The lengths are still very Gold. So, not going to get silver or grey still I think.

I’m holding off more bleach bathing for now.
I’m wondering though next time I do it (going to wait at least a month, as I can certainly live with the colour as it is) if I should try a 30 volume ?
It does show lift every time it’s done (3 times in all over the last month or so) but it’s a slow process.

I’m guessing a couple more bleach baths with 20 volume would get the lengths to match the rest now (if they’re going to go light enough at all), but I’m wondering if more than one bb with 20 volume is better / less damaging than one with a 30 volume ? Or is it much of a muchness ?

Many thanks.

I have no idea why I keep uploading oddly proportioned or sideways pictures. But hopefully you can see the colour anyway.

We got there eventually !

Pravana Vivids Silver.
It's a bit patchy at the back as two tubes wasn't enough for my hair - definitely going to get three next time.

Thanks for all your help, JanineB.
