So I am working on getting white/silver hair from layers of red dye under black dye. I have it at a niceish dark blonde color and its been a bit since my last bleach session. I did a test strand of color oops two days ago and it didn't lift anything at all even after ALLLL the rinsing. Then today I tried the Age Beautiful Creme lightener with 30 Volume developer and did a few test strands of that on a different part of my head for the maximum time of 50 minuets. It sadly did not lift at all either. Could the box have been a dud? Iv never had bleach not work. Is my hair at a color lock stage and is there any way to continue to lighten it? Thanks! =D
What is the history, what colour were layered and how did you get to what you're at now? At dark blonde, I'm not sure what you were expecting the color oops to do.
I don't know age beautiful, but was it cold when you used it? Did you keep the strands warm? Either that your hair could be stained permanently from the previous dyes.
I would guess that your hair is stained if you have used red and black permanent dyes. Staining can't be removed it is totally permanent, and it sounds likely if both colour remover and bleach aren't getting you any lighter.
If you kept both the colour remover and the bleach warm and covered you may have to accept that white isn't a possibility and go for a different colour until all the staining has grown out.
Thanks guys for the replies! I tried the color oops because MANY people continued to tell me to do it, even after getting to the dark blonde. The dark blonde is the result of putting Quick Blue all over my head and then toning it twice (spread out over 2-3 weeks). Obviously it still has very warm tones to it. I had very little faith in color oops working on my current hair, but I had to try it because I've never used it before. I heard glowing reviews about the Age Beautiful Creme Lightener and this was my first time trying a creme bleach. It is possible I didn't keep the strands warm enough, I was unfoiling them A LOT to check on the integrity of my hair. I might try one more strand and if it doesn't work walk away broken hearted. =P Until some other color catches my eye hehe

Ok, I didn't get that as dark blonde didn't totally suggest to me that it has warm tones (in other words orange?). 🙂
Color Oops could well have helped, but not if the color is actually staining. Which also means bleaching most likely isn't going to get you there either. Sorry.
Edit to add - just looked back at your previous posts and saw your pic again. Yeah, I suggested colour removers because of the orange left in your hair.
Orangy is right. That's my bad not yours =P I thought I'd included that bit haha, it was very orange and the toners helped A LOT to eliminate that BUT its on the edge of being orange again because of the toner fading and also seems to be just darker generally than a few weeks ago. Damn these black dyes! I really wish the color remover would have worked because that would have been amazing, its just my inexperience with it that makes me wary, does heat help sometimes with stubborn hair?
For colour removers or bleach?
If a colour remover gets cold it can stop working, so I always cover my head, blast with a hairdryer then wrap in a towel to keep the heat in.
I would be very careful adding heat to bleach considering the strand tests at the salon disintegrated so quickly.
The most effective way I have found to get out black dye is to follow each colour remover with a bunch of fading treatments and leave a couple of weeks before doing another round of remover and fading. It seems to be more effective than doing 3 in quick succession.
BUT If your hair is stained then nothing will get those orange tones out and you will fry your hair trying.
I'm glad you got the result you wanted. But please, please stay away from anything with peroxide for at least a month, preferably until that hair has grown out. You really need to wait at least a month inbetween uses because it can take damage weeks to show up fully.
Edit to add, or was that just a strand test? I can't really tell from the photo on my phone.
Not to worry. =] Just a strand test with a regular strand next to it. I just really want to get an idea of what products I want to move forward with before I make a full fledged plan.
Oh, I just noticed you said with heat. Be REALLY careful with heat as you can very easy cause chemical burns on your scalp and it can make the product work way too well and cause a lot of damage. Sorry, it might not be as great as it seems! :/
