Coconut oil to prevent damage from peroxide/bleach

I have a habit of missing the point so I have a pretty stupid question.

You don't wash the oil off before you bleach/dye, is that right?

Just want to make sure I don't do something silly.

No you don't that's the whole point! Not a silly question at all, it's actually quite crucial. However it's better to wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo before putting on the oil to remove build-up/residues.

Currently sat with some on my hair. My dog wants to eat it!! In an hour, I'll be bleaching, trying to turn a pinky red over to turquoise... wish me luck!! That's if the dog leaves me alone, if she gets too close, I may not have any hair to dye left on my head!!

Tabski let us know how it goes. It's really good hearing people's experiences, if it worked or didn't, what kind of coconut oil they used, how long they left it on, whether they clarified before or not etc...
Hope it goes well for you.

Have decided to start bleaching my own roots after going to the hairdressers for it for the last year and a half only to find out last time I went that they were using 40 vol bleach on my blonde hair. The information in this thread is great, I'll be going to H&B in my lunch break to get some coconut oil, thank you!

I used Fushi Coconut oil (from amazon) and Tresemme Clarifying shampoo.
My hair doesn't feel like it's been bleached it's about the same as it did before, which was pretty good condition because I'd just had it cut.

Definitely doing this again.

This is amazing! Used an organic coconut oil i bought from Publix, let my hair soak it for a couple of hours, then did a bleach bath. I must say my hair feels so amazing and it looks like I never bleached it. Usually my hair is a bit frizzy looking for a couple of days after, but today its all soft and awesome! Defiantly will keep doing this, its so worth it :3

This has been an absolute lifesaver! I just picked up a cheap tub of coconut oil from Superdrug, and it made a huge difference. Normally my hair feels crunchy after bleaching but it didn't at all this time. Hurrah for shiny hair!
