you should! it says it prevents colour build up, prevents patchy colours, prevents root glow and helps remove temporary colours, by dissolving surface build up and cleanses the cuticle.

woah, its taken loads out! just dried it! feels a bit staw like, but for a shampoo its amazing! would definately recommend! gonna go post on the fade hair colour thread!

I just tried this coconut oil trick and it's awesome!  I dyed my hair with a permanent box black (not just black forever, this is the beginning of preparation for my permanent dreads, which will be black on the top half, then coloured on the bottom half, with half of the dreads coloured blue and half coloured purple), and soaked in coconut oil for about 3 hours before dyeing.  Normally, when I wash out a permanent box dye, my hair feels really rough and tangled until I put conditioner on, but with the coconut oil, it felt like it'd already been conditioned!  Amazing.  I did a k-pak reconstruct afterwards, but I don't think my hair really needed it after the coconut oil soak.  And the oil didn't prevent uptake of dye at all, actually made it a bit easier to spread the dye evenly!  I'll definitely be doing this every time I dye my hair now!

I'm so glad this worked for you Mindi! And I cannot wait to see your dreads, I've been dreaming of natural dreads but have to put it off as I'm in an unsure position job-wise at the moment. (But currently almost half-way through making a full set of roving dreads).
If you're gonna keep using permanent dyes (doing roots), keep using the coconut oil, it's really worth it in the long run.

Bought myself the Superdrug 2 for £2.99 pots today and can't wait to try it. Rubbed some on my hands in the car and they're still soft and smell gorgeous. Only problem is I've spent the whole day sniffing my hands and ended up in the shop buying a Bounty!

You're making me want bounty now! and i dont even like them....

Would it be better to use 100% coconut oil before bleaching than the superdrug stuff?

Definitely try the real virgin stuff, it's really not too expensive, you can get a tub of extra virgin coconut oil for cooking in places like holland and barretts, even some tesco's/asda's, and it will last you ages.

I bought a tub of the 100% stuff from holland & barrett for about £10, but that was last November, and I've still got half of it left!

I've been using the superdrug coconut oil for treatments previously, today I went to superdrug to get some more colour b4. Went past holland and barrett and saw they had this massive green tub of pure coconut oil for half price at £6 or so so I picked it up as in a few weeks or so I'm gonna use it before bleaching and I think the pure stuff is best for this.

Just opened the tub and OMG, it smells so much more coconutty that the superdrug one. As it's edible I couldn't resist and I put some on my finger and ate it and it was nice in an oily weird way. Man I hope this stuff actually makes it into my hair....
