On the plus side my hair feels amazing now, but it was a close call. If I'd had no k-pak it would have been doomed!
Going to do another k-pak sesh tomorrow to reinforce it cos I have a boring day ahead.
Needs to be tip top as I would like to do a weak bleach bath on my buttercup halo in a few weeks just to see if it will kindly b****r off.

I did my first full head of bleach yesterday using the coconut oil method, I had my mum and sister helping. Had been leaving coconut oil in my hair over night the past week to prepare my hair. Unfortunately the bleaching on my virgin hair didn't go quite as well as I wanted, very patchy, and still very brown on the ends, but I was very frightened of the bleach and did wash it out pretty early (was feeling a bit dizzy and panicking). I plan on bleaching again in a month to try and go lighter.

The condition of my hair seems good, and I think a lot of that might be down to having coconut oil on my head whilst bleaching πŸ™‚ my post isn't pointless though I do have a question!! Today my scalp feels a bit sore (I think this is normal?), my own fault for sitting in the sun briefly today. I was wondering if I could put some coconut oil on my scalp to perhaps soothe it? Will this make it worse?

Coconut oil is great for the skin and has antibacterial properties to boot--go ahead and put it on your sunburnt scalp to help it :).

Yeah this... didn't work for me. Probably because I messed it up because the coconut oil hardened on my hair because I did this in winter (house was still warm, but.. yeah).

I have extremely long hair and the results I got were:
Bleach blonde roots! (I am assuming because that was where the oil was warm and not all hardened up) The rest of my hair was a little bit red (taken up a couple shades from brunette), and patchy brunette, reddish and coppery.

Disaster.

So yeah, my fault for not piling it all up on my head and covering it in a bag to keep the heat in!

I wasted about Β£20 doing that in bleach.

Did you apply it to the roots last or at the same time as the rest of your hair?
Your roots process much quicker due to the heat from your head so need to be done last to make it even really. Also you're right about the coconut oil going hard, I had it on extensions which I was slowly lightening and the oil had gone hard in some parts resulting in a really patchy bleach job.

I think argan oil is the one oil that has similar properties to coconut oil regarding lauric acid (the component in coconut oil that bonds to the protein in the hair and helps keep it strong).  I think, but I'm not certain ... I'm pretty sure there's some info around here somewhere on it, but I unfortunately don't have the time to find it just now.  I'll come back and edit if I do.

100% virgin is best, so get the cooking oil version.  super drug is ok, bit no where near as good.

Does the coconut oil take any colour from your hair or does it just improve the condition?

Coconut oil is a natural way to help improve the health of your hair. There is concern that coconut oil might increase total cholesterol and bad LDL cholesterol. But there is contradictory evidence that shows that coconut oil might actually increase levels of β€œgood” cholesterol and have little to no effect on total or β€œbad” cholesterol levels.

If it is unrefined 100% pure coconut oil then it should be fine. If it's solid at under 24 degrees C then that's most likely right. I can't be totally sure though as I've not seen that brand, not sure if it's on we have in the UK. Organic or not doesn't matter.

It can take colour from the hair, yes. It doesn't for everyone though.
