Definitely works! I did a straight 30 vol bleach on my roots and 2 bleach baths on the ends in the space of 3 days (I know I shouldn't have, but had to have my hair done for work) and my hair almost feels in better condition that before I bleached. Can't comment on whether it sped up lightening time though, because the bleach baths didn't work too well. Hair feels strong and shiny.
just a minor question, is it all right if the stuff i used hardened in my hair? i bought the tub offer from superdrug, and after i put it on last night it became totally solid, but had softened somewhat when i got up this morning, then went back to solid as the colder air hit it. i'm planning to do the whole, put a bleach bath over the top of it thing. wearing a shower cap currently as i gave the ends a top up with melted oil, maybe i should give it a blast from the hairdryer to soften it up prior to doing the bleach, hehe ^.^;
yeah I would soften it up before bleaching, but dont use too much heat. It'll go solid because its natural state is solid.
that's reassuring, thanks π
Left the oil in for about 2 hours and applied a bit more before bleach. I was expecting some dryness but none! Very soft and lifted quickly. I went from bright pink to light pinks/peachy colors in 45 minutes. Would it be alright to repeat it tonight? o.o Has anyone did it two days in a row?
I definitely don't want to leave it on the for same amount of time but would like to even it out a tad bit more. Toying with the idea of going blonde (maybe D:) for a few weeks then going purple.
*please* don't bleach again for another month. i know your hair feels in good condition but it's *really really really* bad to double process your hair.
Agree with Pippa--don't try to bleach it again tonight or for at least a month. It may feel good now, but the next one could be the one that fries it if it doesn't have a chance to recover.
I am going to attempt to lighten some of my faded dark blue with a bleach bath (to add some turquoise and purple into my hair) today. I've bought some Extra Virgin Coconut Oil from Holland and Barrett yesterday, it sounds too good to be true! Fingers crossed.
Definitely going to try this when next do some bleaching (i.e. once my frazzled hair has grown out.. sighhh).
Would this work before applying a hair dye remover? or would it be best to use the remover on clean hair?
No I wouldn't think so unless the colour remover contains peroxide but if it's Colour B4 or the Jo Baz version (products are identical btw, I compared ingredient lists for both), there is none.
What is damaging when you use a colour remover isn't really the product itself but the heavy manipulation of your hair and the rinsing. Whenever you wash your hair, your hair loses protein (hence the reason why coconut oil is so amazing is that it protects your hair from protein loss).
Alright maybe I'm contradicting myself now I realise, because theoretically coconut oil should be good for colour removing to prevent protein loss. However, I don't know of anyone who has ever tried this, so I can't say that it wouldn't stop the colour remover from working. Whereas there is some scientifical evidence and lots of people who can testify that coconut oil helps protect from damage caused by bleach and peroxide without inhibiting the lightening process or dye intake.
I get what your saying, basically, use it on clean coconut free hair, as there isnt anything strong enough to eat through the oil (like in bleach)
Yes that's what I assume! But then again I've never tried, so I'm only assuming here!
This may sound like a really stupid question but.. dosn't using conditioner on the roots make your hair oily? π

It does but, in this case, conditioner helps take the oil out of the hair, which leaves it shiny but not oily π So as long as u wash then condition your hair shouldnt go oily
