^was just going to say the same, my friend lives in australia and its getting warm there now, so the oil is probably just melting πŸ™‚ Mine gets random bits when it's melted, it's fine πŸ™‚

its usually a solid waxy looking lump. can you find it online to post a link?

It probably wouldn't be, and at this time of year there (getting into summer) it definitely wouldn't be. Coconut oil is solid until about 23 degrees C and turns to liquid. It's possible if it's about that temp there now, that the lumps are unmelted bits floating.

Thanks πŸ™‚ poor scottish coconut oil is eternally solid

So, from what I've read now, coconut oil can be used with permanent dyes too?

So far so good, BUT here comes my question: (possibly a bit silly, I don't know!)
Can I dilute a permanent dye with schampoo just like a bleach bath? To minimize damage even more?

On this subject, how do you melt the oil? I just used some for the first time this evening and it's -1 here tonight, and I could barely scrape it out the tub! It's like trying to extract concrete. I think I broke a fingernail. Do you leave the tub floating in warm water first, or anything? What kind of consistency do you get it to?

warm water as you said or just near a heat source, or the microwave. but i hear you can denature it with too much heat so i do it on a low setting in the micro

Thanks! I've managed to get it to melt by leaving it in a bucket (or at least, the sides melt enough so that I can squeeze some out). Of course, when I put it on my hair it goes straight back to solid and it feels like having lard in my hair, but other than that, all is good!  ;D

wrap your head in cling film and use a hair dryer every so often over the top of it to warm your hair up. Or wrap in a warm damp towel

Just an example here of how cheap you can find this stuff, i got 500g last night in a local 'halal' shop for 2.50. They had load of types all 100% pure virgin coconut oil from 250g - 500g really cheap only difference between brands seemed to be country of origin and style of bottle/tub.
Much cheaper and better quality than superdrug.

Definitely second the coconut oil here. I love the stuff. Plus after I have run it through my hair, I rub it into my cuticles and hands to soften them up too πŸ™‚

I've discovered a problem with coconut oil. My cat loves the taste! He was perching on the rim of the bath licking my head after I applied it πŸ˜€

I just coconut-oiled my hair because it's been a bit brittle lately, and my hands were all sticky and oily πŸ™ I was on the phone with my friend, who is from Tunisia where they use coconut oil for cooking, and she told me to rub some flour or powder over my hands as it apparently works better than water/soap.
Worked a treat, so I thought I'd let you all know!:)

Haha, first time I oiled my hair, my cat licked a drop off the floor. I thought she would like it so I poured a bit for her but she ignored it. She was just curious, I guess!
