No directions dyes/toners should not be mixed with anything to make them work. I've used directions White toner and felt it didn't do much at all, to be honest. However, there silver dye has always taken any yellow tones out for me and worked better than the white.
But, as you said your hair is orangey, I don't think either would work for you. You're best to get a silvering shampoo like bonacure, and use it regularly to see what of the orangeness will tone (like modifiedmomma says) and then in four weeks try a bleach bath and tone again after
I havent used Directions toners. But I know you don't have to mix it with anything. Just put it right on to your dry hair. You can use a toner right whenever you'd like. Especially directions. It won't further damage your hair, and it wont stain your hands or anything. I have heard the white one is good, but I heard the silver one is better. But if you are aiming towards completely white colored hair. Use the white one.
Usually if going for white/silver you need pale yellow to start with. You may need a "darker" selection by mixing violet or blue in it to counteract orange. Maybe try a deeper Directions color like silver as mentioned.
Sometimes people wish for pastel hair and dilute semi with conditioner. There is no need to mix Directions with anything. I love Schwarzkopf Shampoo!
I thought of a question today randomly.... Can you put the coconut oil in your hair, leave it in as a pre-treatment for a bleach bath also? I was thinking about it.. i have no idea why either... But a bleach bath is done when your hair is damp.. so if you have the coconut oil in it and decide to do a bleach bath, when you get your hair wet won't the coconut just come out? so then your hair won't be protected from the bleach.... right? or when the coconut oil is in your hair and its all greasy, does that count as being damp and you just put the shampoo and bleach on that?..
No, I am not planning on doing a bleach bath or anything to my hair.... just a random question I thought of today. 😀
You can apply bleach baths to dry hair. You just cut the shampoo down to 1.5 and add .5 of water.
Coconut oil tends to not come out with just water, as it is not water-soluble. Most people need conditioner to get it out of their hair.
I use coconut oil before bleach bathing my hair and to me at least it makes a difference in my hair quality.
Has anyone tried using coconut oil on their hair while using a color remover? I know there is no bleach or peroxide in Color B4 or Color Oops and the like but the Sodium Hydrosulfite must have some kind of bleaching properties in order to do what it does? Just curious as I have to baby my hair!

The use of coconut oil is not recommended while using a colour remover. I think it's been covered in the thread on using ColourB4. It may even be in the contents of this thread somewhere... but the science of it is explained.
Ok I will search for it thank you!

Okay, I found this message in this thread... but it doesn't actually say not to. I thought I'd read that it wouldn't work with a colour remover (and the science was explained). Now I don't know if anyone has actually tried it or not. I wouldn't be inclined to think it will work personally.
Now that I think about it I agree with you. The color removers are much more gentle than bleach anyway. Better not to mess with things in an an attempt to guild the lilly 😉
Colour removers have no bleaching properties.
Bleaches work by physically destroying the colour molecule--breaking the molecular bonds within the molecules.
Colour removers work by physically shrinking down the colour molecule and sliding them out of the hair shaft.
The chemical Sodium Hydrosulfite is used for the safe removal of dyes in fabrics--presumably by the same method, shrinking the colour molecules so they can slide out of the cloth. If bleach were to be used, it could damage the fabric (as with the hair), but since it is a different chemical process, it doesn't cause structrual damage.
Modified, I think this was the thread you were looking for.

Yes! You are brilliant... thank you. 🙂
So excited to try this! I actually have coconut oil in my hair right now! I'm nervous about tomorrow though: first i'm going to dye my hair with a box dye with the oil still in my hair, but i'm planning on dyeing it with a veggie dye after. I'm worried the oil won't rinse out properly. Should i use shampoo to rinse out the dye and oil? Or just water?

You shouldn't have any trouble getting the coconut oil out after using a permanent dye over top. I've used coconut oil over my entire head prior to doing my roots with a permanent colour to lift them. I would use a shampoo of some sort. I used a post colour neutralizing shampoo to wash out the colour and the coconut oil... and had no problems.
