I think I might have been super lucky that day, cause I haven't seen it back at Tesco's since :(. But yea it's the best quality I found so far so I keep it for bleaching and overnight treatments once in a while, when I'm just doing treatments or using it as a leave-in I use the Superdrugs one or the cheapo one I got from spicesofindia.
Kitebunny there really isn't that big a difference I think, coconut oil = coconut oil = coconut oil. As long as it's pure 100% without addditives, it should contain the lauric acid which helps prevent protein loss. Now it's a possibility that cold-pressing preserves the nutrients better, but to what degree? I'm not sure. I could investigate into it if people are interested.
I don't know if someone asked and since the topic is 13 pages long i might as well ask, only coconut oil works? what about olive oil? or castor oil?

From page 12;
No, sorry, it probably would not work. The only two oils that work are coconut oil and argan oil because of their lauric acid content.
oh thank you very much
My ginormous tub of coconut oil has arrived! Not bad, as I only bought it on Saturday evening from eBay, and it was here first thing this morning.
I had WW this evening (31lbs lost so far since October!) so I plan to drop the wee one into school tomorrow, then grease up my head till I am slick and shiny, help my friend update his firmware on his projector, then home and bleach bath time!
Hoping to get covered in oil by 9:30, then back by 12 at the latest, and all finished in time to collect Dylan by 3:30!
Amazingly excited!
Well, that went swimmingly!
I put on the oil at 8:30am, then itched and squirmed with it till 12:30. When I got home - yes, I went out shopping, then to my friend's house to update some firmware issues - I used some 30 vol in a bleach bath, and waited for my usual time - 40 mins.
No pain or itchiness. It washed out really easily. My hair is still a little dry compared to normal, but not in any way gummy. There's still some orange bits, but they just don't see, to want to go, so I may just get those trimmed out when I go to the hair dresser tomorrow.
I've wanged some Directions toner on after rinsing the bleach and oil out, and will rinse that out later, then joico kpak stuff.
All in all, really easy. A bit icky when the oil was running down my face a little. But really successful, I think.
Nice results, I hope toning goes well!
Ok, I don't know if I should do a new topic (admin? sorry for more work..) but, I have an idea: coconut oil is good for hair and better than olive oil because it enters the shaft or something like that, and mayo is always a good thing to put on your hair..so.. coconut mayo? I mean doing mayo at home with (warmed up) co and egg should give great results...or not? Has anybody tried? 🙂
People haver tried all sorts of concoctions here which generally work very well. Feel free to try that and let us know how it goes!
Sorry if this has been posted, but this is a longgg thread.
I've got the oil on my hair but its seriously solidifying, is this normal? I can't imagine getting a bleach bath over the top evenly is gong to happen...
its cos it solidifys at room temperature, blast your hairdryer over it a bit =]
the lengths of my hair feel like candle wax haha. didnt even think of blasting it with a hair dryer. thank you 🙂
I'm planning on dying my hair pink again(I hope successfully this time) and I'm pretty sure I have to bleach it first, you know, for a brighter and longer lasting result.I'm using SFX atomic pink and I don't know which bleach to use(maybe you could help?My hair is red,but not a bright red).I read this topic and I'm really thinking to use coconut oil(my hair is like super damaged because of a stupid hair dye i used). So these are the steps?I shower my hair,no conditioner, put 2 drops of coconut oil on my hands and apply it on wet hair. Then I sleep(with the wet hair). The next morning I shower my hair,no conditioner again, then follow the steps for the bleach and then dye it.Am i right?(plus, can you recommend me what bleach to use?(i have never used bleach before)
Noo. Shampoo, towel dry or air dry hair, then completly SOAK your hair in coconut oil, like, dripping in oil. 2 drops will hardy do anything. Sleep on it, or leave it at least an hour. The appy the bleach on top of the oil, DONT rinse it out, other wise it wont protect your hair!
I use jerome russel bleach, but i know others use XXL platinum blonde.
Oh,I see.Thank you very much.Is the bleach fine for a bright pink?Plus,I hope I don't lose any hair,I'm really afraid of it.
