Coconut oil to prevent damage from peroxide/bleach

Yikes I feel really bad about this, I never meant to tell people to put bleach on a freshly clarified scalp, even with coconut oil to protect it.
Clarifying shampoos really really irritate my scalp, I used Vosene (anti-dandruff) to fade dye before and it made my scalp flake horrendously. Scalp doesn't need to be clarified really, because who applies conditioners/styling products to their scalp?

It's a bit late now that the deed is done and someone has damaged their scalp, but I realise now how bad this is. Maybe I should edit the original post to make it clearer? In my post with the step by step pictures, it's pretty obvious I left the oil on for a whole night after washing before bleaching (not to mention I don't actually bleach my scalp area so it's kinda useless).

well ive just used cocoil (my new hip term for this wonderful invention) before my bb and it worked amazingly...yet again!!
although my house 't must be cold as it went solid haha! blasted it with a hairdryer and it was fine.
Also, ive noticed since using this method that I have much less shredding after im washing the bleach out of my hair.
ive also found that with the big tub from holland and barrett you need to blast it in the microwave for about 2.5 mins to get it liquidy πŸ™‚
but lets not talk about the disaster which came after the fab bleach bathing thanks to me thinking i want to go blue....
not on this thread anyway πŸ˜‰

This is probably a really stupid question, but what does coconut oil smell like?
Coconut obviously, yeah ok, but is it sweet sickly and weird like Malibu, pleasantly refreshing like an actual fresh coconut, sweet like a Bounty bar, or dusty and cloying like dried coconut?

Reason I ask is, I don't particularly like the smell of coconut, BUT I might be able to put up with it for the sake of my hair if it's not too bad/strong.

Oh and also, does coconut oil still work on your hair if it's been henna'd?  Should I use coconut oil before henna-ing?

Thanks in advance  ;D

Yup, definitely smells like Bounty. I wouldn't call it sickly.

Right.....its been 4 weeks since I last bleached and I have religiously coconuted and reconstructed but it as it still has a yellowish tinge about 2inch from the roots for about an inch like a brassy halo lol I am going to saturate with coconut for an hour then bleach bath over it for only about 15 mins to see if I can remove the yellow, then pop my toner on.  Wish me luck lol x

Bounty smell I can handle, thanks  πŸ™‚

Should I coconut before henna, or henna before coconut?
(it's only a Lush henna bar, not "real" henna lol)

You don't need to coconut before henna as henna doesn't contain peroxide neither bleach. I don't think you should apply henna to coconut oiled hair (I'm not entirely sure don't take my word for it, but I've only ever hennaed over dry hair), but there is no reason you can't put a few drops of it as a leave-in after doing your henna while your hair is wet. Or coconut oiling as a pre-wash the next time you wash your hair.

I was thinking more in terms of the henna "blocking" the coconut oil?
I'd leave it a while in between - I plan to henna over towel-dry, clean hair - and I wonder if the henna will prevent coconut oil soaking in later on?

I don't know much about how these things work, lol (can you tell? ;))
