i hate to be the one to ask a stupid question and sorry if its already been asked, but im bleaching my hair later on so do i:
1. wash with a clarifying shampoo
2. towel dry hair
3. apply oil
4. leave for 1 hour
5. apply bleach to the hair over oil without drying?
or do i wash the oil out and dry it first since people normally bleach on dry hair? :s  sooo confused :p

theres no point in washing your hair as you're going to mucky it up with oil anyway. Also you want as much oil, natural and coconut, on your hair as possible to protect your hair as the bleach will eat through it.
And yeah just whack the bleach on top of the oil 🙂

Boots do a massive tub for £5. We have always had it in the house as thats what they used on my 27 weeker in the neonatal to moisturise her skin. I found ive used it for everything but didnt know i could do it pre-bleach! Must try! Thank you!

Thanks xMoonfairyx for letting me know about this forum, I had no idea about coconut oil! So before my next colour I will be giving it a try as my hairs pretty long and gets rather ratty!   ;D

Sorry, me again, apologies if this is a silly question but is it a liquid form or the block stuff? x

eekey it normally comes in the block form and you can melt it with your hands or in the microwave 🙂

I'm ready to try this this morning!  😮 😮 wish me luck!

Edit: Doesnt seem to be speeding up the process at all.... 🙁 but not rinsed yet so no idea about the condition

So in the method I've used and that a bunch of other people from the Long Hair Community did, the reason for the clarifying before putting on the oil is to get rid of product build-up. So it's not necessary if you don't have any build-up, but if you have used any sort of heavy conditioner, styling product or anything with silicone in it, then you might want to clarify.

But yeah, natural hair sebum and coconut oil themselves will not stop the bleach from processing.

Also, I wanted to say for all the people who complain about the coconut oil not "speeding up" the bleaching process, I'm pretty sure I never claimed it did. It helps (in my humble opinion) with spreading the bleach/peroxide mix more easily than on dry hair and it helps dye uptake if you're actually dying with a semi or permanent box dye, but I don't think it really speeds up the bleaching in terms of processing time.

I'm glad lots of people are finding this helpful. My last bleach bath was on the 29th of November, so I'm thinking of doing some sort of bleaching again in the next couple of months. I might do a more detailed tutorial then as people seem to keep asking the same questions although I thought I was pretty clear in my instructions in the first post... Obviously that was a fail!

I do think prevention is key regardless so it's always worth a go. I will say it worked for me - my hair took a battering today and it still feels way better than what it generally feels like after an attack of 40vol!!!

Thank you Theodora, defiantly something I will continue to do in future!

No worries, I'm so glad it helped! I really want to help people protect their hair when bleaching because so many people have bleach-damaged hair (I do!) and although I know that the wise thing would be to stop bleaching, it's not that easy to just give up and go natural. So using coconut oil for me is like trying to bleach responsibly and with as much gentleness as possible 🙂

hmm pretty sure bleach will eat through anything though, which is why I'd stay well away from clarifying shampoos even before coconut oil. Think that was the problem here?
