Chemical burns dying roots

I find it hard to avoid as well, but I always get burns when a hairdresser does it too (and sometimes really quite bad). I guess we just have very sensitive scalps.

To try and avoid it, you can try using coconut oil on your scalp before you start. Try and avoid getting the bleach on your scalp. Hairdressers are actually trained to keep it just off of the scalp as bleach expands and covers that area, but doing it yourself is virtually impossible and I've found an awful lot of hairdressers put it on the scalp anyway. Try and avoid leaving it on too long. You can always do your head in two halves if it's really difficult. Back first, rinse it off keeping the front dry, then do the front. I know my worst burns always happen at my nape and crown of my head becasue that's where it's on longest and the warmest areas.

Also try to be really gentle - I once ran short of bleach and kind of rubbed it in to try to spread it further  😮

At the time I just didn't notice because we were having a really interesting conversation and I was looking at the other customer that was also involved in the convo! It wasn't until I got home and realised just how badly my scalp was burning that I thought back to what I felt him doing. He was going in after he'd finished my roots and was adding more, but for some reason he was scrubbing my scalp. I was so odd, firstly that I didn't really notice and secondly that he thought it was the right way.

I was really scared my scalp was ruined that time and I'd never grow hair on the back of my head again. Thankfully it was ok, but it took a few weeks to heal completely.
