I've been bleaching + dyeing my hair since I was 15 (approx 5 years now) and during that time I've done every color besides the 2 colors I want right now. I would habitually lighten my hair and have it green, blue, or red, and then I'd dye it all black and leave it for a month or so---then bleach it again. I never dyed my hair all red before, just parts, and as usual I kept doing this.
Last year I bleach all of my hair and dyed it "crimson", which was a very bright red. It was okay. But it was staining my pillows and upkeep was annoying. SO I dyed my hair black. What next? I bleached, of course....but... my hair didn't lighten to the brassey-ish that it always did before... it was pink! My hair has been bleaching to pink, besides my roots.
The irritation is this:
I've wanted to see what I would look like with blonde hair for such a long time. I want to try it! But my hair turns to pink when bleach touches it and I don't know how I can "tone" out the pink, or even why it's doing this. I also want to try lavender because (why not?) my hair was pastel pink in 2013 and I kick myself for not using that super lightened hair with purple dye. ugh.
I have a record of bleaching more than I should in a short amount of time. Not twice a week, more like twice a day when I get anxious. It's probably that my hair is experiencing limbo but it feels okay and my split ends are minimal... What can I do? *anyone*
The pink is due to the red dye that is under the black.
Bleach is never the best way to remove dye. as well as the damage from over processing it can actually drive the colour deeper in, making it harder to remove.
So you should remove the old dye before attempting to bleach. If it was an oxidative dye (ie one that required mixing with developer) use a colour remover. If it was a direct dye like Manic Panic or Directions (no developer) then you can use a colour remover or other fading methods such as the bleach powder/shampoo/oils fading method, or dandruff shampoo
