Bleaching Over Blue

Hi everyone!

I'm new to fashion colors this year (on my own). I've been dying my hair blue since July, but it is only over my ombre blonde that I already had. (and it wasn't all that light... still a bit yellowish actually).

The deal is this:

I'm quite happy dying my own hair blue, I've found it to be much easier than I thought. The problem is that I'm wanting a change in the shade. With so many dyes over the past few months, the blue is getting darker and darker, and I'm actually wanting to go much lighter in the blue anyway.

I live in a city where it costs $250 for a single process of just about anything, so i'm really hoping to get some advice here on what I can do to lighten my hair, and then dye it blue again and come out with a lighter shade.

My hair from my roots down to the blue is natural right now. I wouldn't be opposed to going ENTIRELY blue if that meant just doing a bleach wash of some kind as well.

I have two questions:

1. Is it suggested after a certain number of dyes of the same fashion color to strip the color from the hair and start over with that fashion color? (ie. My hair does NOT look like the same shade of blue as it did when I first started dying it blue back in July) πŸ™

2. Is it possible (read; "easy enough") for me to lighten my hair under the existing blue at home, to achieve a lighter shade of blue?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Stop dying it blue and fade the blue you have if you want a lighter blue πŸ™‚ Using sulphate shampoos, dandruff shampoos or clarifying shampoos will speed this along. If you then find it's too patchy for your taste, redye using a lighter shade of blue than you've been using.

You might then need to lighten your base a bit if the blue starts shifting towards the turquoise/green side (unless you're happy with that), but if you already have a blue shade, it's likely ok. There's no point in lightening your hair if it's just not what is needed.

Thank you!

There are some green's in there sadly. I've been mixing pravana blue with a drop of purple to kill the green when I dye it. I suppose I'll fade it, but when it gets ashy looking it bugs me πŸ˜‰

I did try a turquoise initially, but it turned my hair an overall aqua green color which I hated.

I think lightening it is my only option at this point for a change in the blue shade.

If a turquoise is too green,  just add some more of a truer blue.

I very much doubt you need to lighten. Even if you do, you really need to fade it first so you know the base you have to work with.

Hello!!

I am literally wanting the same thing, I've got blue hair at the moment but I want it a little bit lighter.

I've added a photo of my hair atm (sorry its at the xmas do and the most recent one I have haha).

I've been looking into Scott Cornwall colour remover or bleach baths but I honestly have no idea!

What colour was your hair under the blue? I looks as though it was quite dark (orangey/brassy?)
If it was then you will need to fade the colour and lighten further, light blues need a very light base.
If your base was already light blonde but the dye was a dark blue you just need to fade it. Best place to start is washing frequently with hot water and a strong shampoo (dandruff or clarifying)

It was brassy then plum directions that faded itself to blue, I then just starting topping up with midnight blue really conditioned down to make it lighter πŸ™‚ I've been washing with dandruff shampoo for a while and also tried the weird vitamin C stuff for a couple of hours!

Thank you for your help so far, what would be the best option for lightening further? any particular products or methods that would be best :)?
