Heya folks,
This is my first post, just looking for some advice.
I'm looking to obtain a pretty vibrant shade of purple, something similar to:
My hair was dyed black for quite a few years, I started the bleaching/bleach bath process a few months ago. I used L'oreal Hi Lift Hilights in Ash Blonde as my last step and it did lighten considerably and removed some of the orange tones. I'm just wondering if my hair has been lightened enough to obtain that shade of purple. There are still some blotchy spots left over around my roots, but I'm hoping it'll give it some dimension without fading to a terrible color.
Let me know what you think, any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.
*thx*
I bought some punky colour dyes in purple, violet, and plum.
if it was me, I would do just one bleach bath to see if I could get it a shade or two lighter. But that depends on when you last bleached and what condition your hair is in.
I think purple would cover your hair fine as it is now, but I'm not sure the purple would be as vibrant as the picture you posted.
And have you tried a colour remover like Colour B4?
Thanks exoskeletal! Its been a week since I did anything, so I'll wait a while longer & continue conditioning in the meantime.
Valaina, I haven't tried that. I guess that should've been my first step, I went to a salon when it was first bleached. I don't think the hairdresser realized I had 4 years of black dye buildup after telling her.
I might do another bleach bath to see if I can get the ends to lighten up a bit more. They don't seem to want to budge.
I do have to say this dark blonde/orange shade is a total change from the black & I almost like it. (If it wasn't so patchy, of course).
Thanks again. (:
I don't think you are anywhere near pale enough for such a blue toned purple. Pinker toned purples (like Punkys purple) are more forgiving of yellow/orange tones though. If you are happy with a more muted purple, it will show up on that base, but that really clear violet purple needs a pale blonde base IME. So it is up to you how to proceed, and the shade of purple you ultimately want. You have a couple of purple strands in the pic, were you happy with that colour?
Definitely try a colour remover, they do still work after bleaching, but if your hair is stained from the black dye, then that will be permanent and you will have to work with it or cut it off.
Wicked Pixie, I'll try a color remover! Thanks for the advice (:
The strand tests looked okay. One side was using the plum punky colour which I liked, and the other side I used the purple dye, the purple one looked a bit too red toned. I'm just worried about the fade since its still so dark.
Many people on here recommend dark purples to cover less than perfect bases, but on my hair, I always got greyish or brownish sludge until I fully bleached my base. I actually found blues easier to achieve than blue toned purple/violet. So if that type of purple is your goal, i would definitely spend a bit more time getting your base perfect first.
I have a very imperfect base, so I had to transition my hair from a pinky purple to a true purple, and now finally a blue purple. I did Punky Purple --> Punky Plum --> Punky Violet to get there. I now use Pravana Violet mixed with Pravana Blue as my purple, but reaalllly want SFX Wildflower. Get back in stock already!
