hello - natural hair is 50% grey 50% darkest brown
it was dyed black and thought I would bleach it for the summer (yeah right I know !!)
here is what I did ..
jerome russell for dark hair x 3 FULL HEAD
jerome russell toner platinum x 2 bottles
nice n easy medium natural neutral blonde hair colour x 2 boxes
and I look like dick van dyke as a puppet in chitty chitty bang bang !
what shall I do ? grow out some natural virgin hair and then crop it all off ? or put a semi on top ?
many thanks for reading (I am so embarrased) x
Don't be embarrassed, Emililia! It sounds like you double-processed your hair, however, I'm not sure it did any good using the Nice 'n' Easy box dye after the toner - as it's got peroxide, it may have affected the toning you did beforehand (only a speculation, not sure!).
Just take really good care of your hair now and, so what do you ultimately want, given what you've got now? You can always use semis to cover or tone to achieve another colour/shade that you are happy with. Use reconstructors (K-Pak is excellent) and try to get some really good silicone-free conditioners to moisturise. Give it a week or so and see if you might need a little trim off the ends.
Recently-processed hair always needs some time to rest, so if it's feeling dry now, it probably is but needs to recover a bit. So my advice is don't panic just yet and give it some good TLC!
P.S. And as you probably already know, stay away from evil box dyes. *devil* π
It actually looks quite nice, what don't you like about it?
aww thank you so much for replying ! I will leave it for at least a week before washing it and take your advice with the conditioner - I will need a cut I just need to decide how much
regards Emilia x
When you say x3 or x2 ... do you mean you used three/two bottles to cover your whole head, or do you mean that you used the bleach/box dye three or two times?
You should always wait a minimum of one month between processes to protect your hair and scalp.
I'm not sure what advice you're after ... are you upset at the colour, or the condition of your hair?
I used 3 boxes of bleach over 2 days .. I guess Im just in shock really ! I have got used to it a bit now but its like straw and still yellowy/orangy but then again it was dyed black originally

She's processed 5 times in 2 days.(3 bleaches and 2 Nice and Easy permanent colours , that shade is not a toner or semi)
Emililia thats a huge amount of processing that should have taken months. I think the colour is nice but in time your hair may well suffer.
Its seriously important now to take take of your hair right now, you could see a lot of breakage soon, it doesnt always happen right away. You'll need a cut at some point as damage travels up the hair shaft
Dont use heated appliances, especially straighteners. It might be worth using Joico K-Pak Deep- Penetrating Reconstructor Treatment for a good treatment (use between shampoo and conditioning)
Whatever you do - do not use anything else that contains peroxide on your hair any time soon. If you ever do the roots, make sure the rest of the hair does not come to contact with bleach/dye.
If you need to tone you could use a true semi, and those are available on the website. They don't damage your hair.
How long ago did you do these bleaches? Not to scare you but it can take a while for the extent of the bleach damage to show....and three boxes of bleach plus the box dyes (which also contain peroxide) is extreme to say the least. When I didn't know any better I bleached my hair (once) then put one box dye on it, and my hair on one side started to snap off from about chin length, I had to have it all cut off π
First of all I would buy Joico K Pak immediately, a big bottle if you can get one - you're going to need a lot!
No more bleach, no more box dyes until the damage has been grown out and trimmed off, you can try using veggie dye on it but you may find it won't stick - you can actually melt the cuticle off with too much bleach.
I would get a trim, and take off as much of the damage as you can bear. Then use a protein based reconstructor, followed by a deep conditioning treatment. Coconut oil is great for soaking dry damaged hair, and for future reference helps to prevent damage when applied directly before bleaching.
I would make a toner from blue/violet dye and conditioner, it will neutralise the brassiness and is totally non-damaging. I like Directions Neon Blue for orangey tones, and Violet for yellow. You can leave it on for several hours, it will also help to condition.
If you wanted a brighter colour you could put a red, orange, deep pink, magenta or warm purple over that base. Any of the dyes sold here are safe to use.
